This past weekend, Muskegon County 4‑H Program Coordinator Clara Priest and volunteer Anna Eldenbrady attended the 2026 4‑H Outdoor Education Workshop alongside Extension staff, volunteers, and educators from across the state. The workshop was hosted by Camp Newaygo, where attendees learned hands‑on techniques for working with youth outdoors, including fire building, outdoor cooking, shelter building, and more. Participants also became certified to teach using the Michigan DNR’s Project WILD curriculum. It was a great weekend of learning how to bring the wonder of the outdoors to youth, connect with colleagues, and explore new ways to spark curiosity and confidence through outdoor learning, both in and beyond the classroom.

2026 4-H Exploration Days is quickly approaching! This year we are excited to send 13 youth from Muskegon County!

We are still in need of a female chaperone for this year's trip!
The event takes place Wednesday, June 24th-Friday, June 26th.

As a chaperone you would attend the trip, assist with youth check ins and meetings, stay in the dorms to help enforce curfew, check in with youth at mealtimes, assist (not lead) an event activity each day, help chaperone youth activities like open gym time and the dance.

This is a great way to help youth experience college life in a safe and controlled environment. Spend time on campus, sleep in the dorms, eat in the dining hall, and get a chance to re-live the college experience while also helping inspire a new generation.

In order to be a chaperone, you must first be a screened 4-H volunteer. If you are interested in chaperoning or becoming a 4-H volunteer in general, please contact me at [email protected]
