PLEASE JOIN US TONIGHT at 7 PM

Our 2026 Hackley Distinguished Lecture is TONIGHT, Thursday, May 21, at 7 PM, at the Muskegon Museum of Art, with a reception following at Hackley Public Library. The event is free and open to the public.

Frank Bednarek's lecture “Bad Bunny, Snoop Dogg, & Martha Stewart: Why We Need Them” explores challenges and opportunities in supporting our community‘s cultural life and heritage.

Don Crandall, Nancy Crandall, Kathy Evans, and Phyllis Wahlberg (in memoriam) will receive Commendation for Service to the Humanities Awards. They will be celebrated for their deep and lasting contributions to the humanities in Muskegon County.

Hackley Public Library has gone all out to host this kick-off event at Hackley Park for the first time and we’re excited!

Food trucks, games, authors, and lots of activities. Please come to the park on May 30 to support summer reading and HPL!

We're so excited for HPL's Summer Reading Kick-Off event, which will be happening on Saturday, May 30 from 10am-1pm in Hackley Park!

The Friends of Hackley Public Library invite you to their annual Hackley Distinguished Lecture at 7 PM on Thursday, May 21st at the Muskegon Museum of Art.

A reception will follow at Hackley Public Library.

The event is FREE and open to the public.

FRANK BEDNAREK is this year’s distinguished lecturer.

A dedicated patron of the arts, Frank's lecture “Bad Bunny, Snoop Dogg, & Martha Stewart: Why We Need Them” explores challenges and opportunities in supporting our community‘s cultural life and heritage.

Frank is a former Muskegon Administrator, Owner of Frank Bednarek Consulting Services, and Partner/Co-owner of Ho**er DeJong Architects & Engineers.

Among his many community involvements, Frank is currently Chair of the Muskegon Museum of Art (MMA) Trustees and Co-chair of its Capital Campaign. The MMA is a place where Frank’s immeasurable contribution of time and talent has had a regional and national impact.

Commendation for Service to the Humanities Awards will be presented to Don Crandall, Nancy Crandall, Kathy Evans, and Phyllis Wahlberg (in memoriam). Each of these individuals has made deep and lasting contributions to the humanities in Muskegon County, which will be celebrated at the event.

You've probably noticed that Hackley Public Library has increased its outreach in recent months, bringing programs and services into the community in fun and helpful ways. Friends is supporting their efforts by providing HPL logoed attire. Each staff member selected an item of their choice. They look pretty great, don't they?!
