Public Health - Muskegon County Health Promotion, Disease Prevention, Environmental Health Protection

The governmental public health agency has a unique role to see that vital elements are in place and the mission is adequately addressed. This role is accomplished by implementation of the core functions of public health: assessment of information on the health of the community, comprehensive public health policy development and the assurance that public health services are provided in the community.

🏖️ Beach water monitoring begins this week at public beaches in Muskegon County! Throughout the summer, water samples will be tested for E. coli bacteria with the help of GVSU Annis Water Resources Institute.

Monitoring helps identify when bacteria levels may be elevated and could pose a risk to swimmers. If E. coli levels are too high, we recommend that the beach owner post a swimming advisory or close the beach until conditions improve.

You can view beach monitoring results from across Michigan anytime at: www.mi.gov/beachguard

Have a safe and healthy beach season! ☀️🌊

Lifestyle Medicine Week is May 17–23! 🌱

Healthy daily habits can play a powerful role in preventing, managing, and even reversing chronic disease. Small steps—like adding an extra serving of vegetables, taking a short walk, getting to bed a little earlier, finding healthy ways to manage stress, or making time to connect with others—can add up to big results over time.
