Muskegon County Hazardous Materials Response Team An all-hazard response team serving Muskegon County and surrounding Communities

The Muskegon County Hazardous Materials Response Team handles transportation accidents, chemical spills in business and manufacturing facilities, and acts of terrorism involving Weapons of Mass Destruction. The team takes corrective actions to stop or mitigate the release of hazardous materials, while safeguarding the welfare of citizens, emergency response personnel and the environment. The HMRT

also provides guidance and assistance to first responding fire companies at the scene of hazardous materials incidents.

The Muskegon County Hazmat Team would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the entire team at Webb Chemical for inviting us to train alongside their outstanding HAZWOPER crew.

This hands-on training in a controlled industrial environment gave our team the opportunity to sharpen our skills and further our knowledge in hazardous materials response. Collaborating with professionals who handle these situations daily is invaluable for keeping our community safe.

Our team has assisted with three HazMat incidents over the past week, including a semi tractor-trailer rollover, a motorhome propane tank leak, and a submerged tug vessel releasing multiple hydrocarbons into Spring Lake. Across these responses, our team provided technical expertise, leak confinement and product offloading support, and boom deployment to prevent further environmental impact during today’s incident.
