This is a difficult message to write, and we know it will be difficult to receive. It is with deep sadness that we share the news that our colleague, Commissioner Darrell Paige, passed away on Saturday, January 31, 2026.

Commissioner Paige was a valued member of our team and a meaningful part of our community. Throughout his time with us, he made a lasting impact through his dedication, leadership, and the genuine care he showed to others. Many of us will remember him for his calming presence, spirit of collaboration, faith, kindness, strength, and unwavering willingness to support those around him. His presence will be deeply missed.

As a community, we grieve this loss together. Our thoughts and sincere condolences are with Commissioner Paige’s family, friends, and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time.

We recognize that grief affects everyone differently, and we encourage each of you to take the time and space you need while also supporting one another. Caring for ourselves and for our community is especially important during moments like this.

We will share additional information regarding memorial services, arrangements, or ways our community can honor Commissioner Paige’s memory as those details become available.

Thank you for coming together as a community and for keeping Commissioner Darrell Paige and his loved ones in your thoughts and prayers.

With Sympathy,

Muskegon County

⚠️ Out of an abundance of caution, a public health advisory has been issued for the recreation areas. The risk to people is low, but visitors should avoid contact with sick or dead birds and be cautious in the area.
