๐Ÿšง MCRC crews are crack pouring along Michillinda Road in Twin Lake this week to help repair damaged areas of pavement before they get worse.

This process uses pressurized air to clean the crack of contamination, then liquid asphalt is placed over the crack to cover the surface and fill in the crack.

๐Ÿšง Road Closure Notice - Ravenna Road

Due to contractor delays, Ravenna Road will be closed between Mortimer Street and Apple Avenue for a road construction project, which will take place after the conclusion of the regular school year.

During the closure, a detour will be posted using Apple Ave, Slocum Rd, and Mortimer St. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead, follow posted detour routes, and allow extra travel time. However, motorists should be aware that Apple Ave (M-46) will already be closed at Ravenna Rd for a bridge replacement over Crockery Creek being completed by MDOT.

Due to that closure, MDOTโ€™s detour for the M-46 (Apple Ave) bridge project will follow Ravenna Rd to Bailey Rd to Trent Rd. Drivers are encouraged to plan ahead, be aware of both detours in the area, and allow extra travel time.

Please find detour maps posted below.

We appreciate your patience as crews work to improve our roads!

๐Ÿšœ Roadside mowing typically begins around Memorial Day weekend. This timing aligns with when rainfall starts to slow, temperatures rise, and grass begins to grow more rapidly.

Our crews closely monitor conditions each spring and may adjust the timing slightly depending on how quickly vegetation develops along the roadside.

Mowing isnโ€™t just about appearance - itโ€™s also guided by environmental regulations. Certain areas can only be mowed at specific times of the year, and only a certain distance from the roadway, in accordance with guidance from Michigan Department of Transportation, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and the Michigan Department of Natural Resources. These guidelines help protect threatened and vulnerable species during sensitive times of the year.

Our goal is to balance safety, visibility, and environmental responsibility as we head into the summer season.

๐Ÿšง MCRC crews completed dura patch work on Lamos Road in Whitehall this week as part of our ongoing roadway maintenance efforts.

Dura patching is designed to create a more durable, longer-lasting repair by addressing damaged pavement before it continues to break apart. During the process, holes and deformed roadway areas are cleaned out with compressed air before a mixture of emulsion and small stone is sprayed into the area, creating a strong โ€œgluedโ€ surface over the damaged section of road.

๐Ÿ›ฃ๏ธ This type of maintenance helps strengthen the road surface, improve driving conditions, and extend the life of the road while helping prevent larger and more costly repairs in the future.

MCRC crews are crack sealing along Heights Ravenna Road this week as part of our ongoing roadway maintenance efforts.

Crack sealing helps prevent water from getting beneath the pavement, which can lead to potholes and more costly road damage over time.

Heights Ravenna Rd is also scheduled to be chip sealed later this season, making this crack sealing work an added measure to help seal the cracks before we seal the entire surface.

๐Ÿšœ Spring planting season is underway, which means more farm equipment on Muskegon County roads.

Tractors and other agricultural vehicles often travel at slower speeds, make wide turns, and may take up more than one lane. You may come up on them quickly, especially on rural routes.

If you encounter farm equipment, please slow down and be patient. Only pass when itโ€™s safe and legal, and give operators plenty of space.

Our farmers are hard at work this time of year. A little extra awareness helps keep everyone safe on the road!

Starting Wednesday, May 20 at 10 a.m., the traffic light at Russell Rd and Riley Thompson Rd will switch from flashing mode to green-yellow-red operation to help manage increased summer traffic to Michiganโ€™s Adventure.

๐Ÿ“… This seasonal change happens each year from the week before Memorial Day through the week after Labor Day.

Please stay alert and follow the updated signals as you travel through the area.

Work began this week on the Cline Road culvert replacement, after the roadway was closed last week due to the culvert failing.

Thanks to quick communication and a fast turnaround on approvals between the MCRC and Fruitport Township, crews were able to begin work immediately instead of waiting months for the project to move forward.

Replacing the failed culvert will restore proper drainage beneath the roadway, help prevent future washouts and erosion, and keep the road safe and reliable for the traveling public.
