Hello,

Since returning from Holiday block leave all of our training has been focused on Physical Fitness and Riflemanship. We have transitioned from our Backup Iron Sight (BUIS) to firing with the Close Combat Optic (CCO). The trainees of Delta Company have had two great weeks of training. They culminated their Rifle Marksmanship training by qualifying with their M4 Carbine. At the end of the day, 67 of our Soldiers were able to hit 36 or more out of 40 targets and qualify as expert rifleman. The ability to accurately engage targets with limited time of exposure and at a wide variety of ranges is a crucial skill of the Infantry. The Company finished with 67 experts, 92 sharpshooters, and 19 marksmen. The standard for each qualification ratings are: 36-40 experts, 30-35 sharpshooter, and 23-29 marksmen.

The Trainees will be given a 4 hour Sandhill pass on 17 January 2016 because of how well they performed during training last week. They will also have their cell phones to make calls and provide you with any updates on their training status. Their 4 hour pass will start at 1:00 p.m and end at 5:00 p.m. – CPT Hill

New pictures will be posted late Sunday night.

The confidence course continues on the training that the Soldiers have already had. This course is not as physically demanding as the conditioning course is, but instead is focused on getting Soldiers to overcome their fear of heights. Some nervous faces throughout the day, but overall the Soldiers did well and had a good time. -LT Duncan

The gas chamber gives Soldiers the basic skills necessary to protect themselves in the event of a chemical attack. This training culminates when the Soldiers don their protective masks and move into a chamber that is filled with CS (tear) gas. After conducting some training inside the chamber to gain confidence in their mask they take off their masks and exit the chamber. Every Soldier that has conducted this type of training always remembers it. -1LT Duncan

Week 3 (7-12 Dec) Major training events:

Army Physical Fitness Test 1(APFT) On Monday the Soldiers took APFT 1 and as normal the scores are very low. By APFT 5 the Soldiers will have to score a minimum of 60 points in each event in order to graduate. We have a long way to go but with a healthier diet and 6 days of physical training a week they will be in great shape in 14 weeks.

Foot March (FM) 2: The Soldiers completed (FM 2) 4 miles. We still have FM 3, FM 4, FM 5, and FM 6 remaining. FM 6 is our 12 mile foot march. Over time the Soldiers will become proficient at moving extended distances while carrying heavy loads. They will gain confidence in their physical abilities and become comfortable with their equipment.

Rifle Marksmanship (RM) Period 2: The Soldiers spent the day at the Engagement Skills Trainer (EST). This simulator mimics firing on a range and provides cadre with a wide variety of information that assists us in correcting problem areas. It also allows us to get Soldiers through various scenarios many times so that when they shoot live for the first time tomorrow they will be more comfortable firing. This is our second day of eighteen days devoted to Rifle Marksmanship this cycle.

Rifle Marksmanship Period 3 consisted of two days of grouping and zeroing his assigned M4 Carbine. During this time the Trainee will demonstrate a sound understanding of the fundamentals of marksmanship by obtaining tight shot groups on a scaled 300m target at 25 meters.

RM Period 4 the Trainee will confirm his zero and also be able to understand why the adjustment of the aiming point is necessary based on target distance.

RM Period 5 was another day in the EST where the Trainees were introduce to single and multiple timed targets. The Trainees are able to effectively engage single and multiple timed targets in the EST, and understand how the improper application of the fundamentals of marksmanship affect this accuracy. Photos will be posted soon- CPT Hill
