From friendly competition to fellowship and fun, it was a wonderful day celebrating active lifestyles and the incredible seniors who make our communities stronger every day.

If you’re passionate about serving older adults and advocating for residents in long-term care facilities, don’t miss this opportunity to join our Department of Aging Services team.

NACOLG is currently accepting applications for a full-time Community Ombudsman within our Department of Aging Services.

This rewarding position serves as an advocate for residents of nursing homes and assisted living facilities, helping to address concerns, protect resident rights, and improve quality of life for older adults throughout our region.

Salary Range: $50,627.20 – $78,020.80

We offer an excellent benefits package, including:
Paid employee insurance
Paid time off and paid holidays
State of Alabama Retirement
Opportunities for professional growth and advancement

Qualified applicants should have a bachelor’s degree in a health-related or social science field and at least one year of professional experience working with older adults. Community Ombudsman experience and public sector experience are preferred.

Thanks to funding through the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) and ADECA Alabama Department of Economic And Community Affairs exciting improvements are taking shape. We are proud to support projects that enhance outdoor recreation opportunities and improve quality of life for our communities.

NACOLG is seeking public input on dangerous roads and transportation safety concerns throughout our region. We encourage you to review the article below to learn more about this important initiative.

We will also be gathering public feedback in person at First Fridays in Florence tonight from 5:30–8:30 p.m. Visit us at the Garver Booth #93 on Court Street near Tombigbee Street and share your thoughts on roadway safety, transportation needs, and areas of concern in your community.

All information collected will be used to help develop a Public Action Plan that reflects the needs and priorities of the communities we serve.

NACOLG is partnering with Florence Parks & Recreation for a Southern Gospel Singing featuring Music City Quartet with Shannon Knight on July 23!

Join us at the Florence-Lauderdale Coliseum for a morning of great gospel music, fellowship, and fun. This event is open to the public, and admission is just $5 per person.

Lunch will be provided by TRIO for those who purchase an armband through their local senior center by July 9.

NACOLG invites the public to attend a Community Meeting regarding the proposed Shoals Area Railroad Overpass Project.

This meeting will provide residents, businesses, and community stakeholders an opportunity to learn more about the proposed project, ask questions, and provide input during the planning process.

Representatives from NACOLG, Volkert, and the Shoals Area MPO will be available to discuss the project and receive comments from the public.

Written comments may be submitted by mail or email through June 10, 2026.
