At yesterday’s department meeting, Breezy Joiner AEMT and Chris Travis EMTB were recognized for demonstrating outstanding attitudes and resilience during challenging times!Their positive outlook, dedication, and willingness to support others have made a meaningful difference, especially during difficult moments. We are grateful for their example and for the positive impact they continue to have on our team.

If anyone has lost a kitten in the 5th st downtown square area it has turned itself in to EMS. He is very friendly, and would love to go home. Unfortunately he does not have state licensure as an EMT so we cannot keep him.

With Independence Day right around the corner, Murray-Calloway County EMS wants everyone to have a fun—and safe—holiday.

Keep these firework safety tips in mind:

🎇 Leave fireworks to responsible adults.
🧨 Never allow young children to handle fireworks, including sparklers. Sparklers can burn at temperatures over 1,000°F and can cause serious injuries.
💧 Keep a bucket of water or a garden hose nearby in case of fire or malfunction.
🚫 Never relight a “dud” firework. Wait at least 20 minutes, then soak it in water before disposing of it.
👓 Wear eye protection when lighting fireworks.
🏡 Use fireworks only in open areas away from homes, vehicles, dry grass, and other flammable materials.
🍺 Never use fireworks while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
🐶 Keep pets indoors, as loud noises can cause fear and unexpected behavior.

If someone is burned:
🔥 Cool the burn with cool (not ice-cold) running water for at least 20 minutes.
🚑 For serious burns, burns to the face, hands, feet, or ge****ls, or if clothing catches fire, call 911 immediately.

Paramedic Passmore's commitment extends beyond exceptional patient care to include tireless efforts in planning training classes for our agency, hospital staff, and the community.

EMS Week isn’t about lights and sirens.
It’s about the people behind them.

The ones who leave dinner tables cold.
The ones who miss birthdays, anniversaries, holidays, and bedtime stories because someone else’s worst day became our responsibility.

It’s the medic who hasn’t slept in 22 hours but still kneels beside a scared patient and says, “I’ve got you.”
It’s the EMT carrying the weight of calls they never talk about.
It’s the crews laughing in the truck one minute and fighting to save a life the next.

People see the ambulance.
They don’t always see the exhaustion.
The missed meals.
The PTSD.
The silent ride home after a bad call.
The tears wiped away before walking into the next one.

EMS is not just a profession.
It’s sacrifice.
It’s compassion under pressure.
It’s carrying humanity on your shoulders when yours is running empty.

This week, we honor every EMT, AEMT, paramedic, dispatcher, supervisor, educator, first responder, and retired provider who gave pieces of themselves so others could have another chance.

To the ones still standing after everything this job takes from you:
Thank you.

And to the ones we’ve lost along the way — the ones who carried too much for too long — we remember you too.
