The Murray Police Department recently began an investigation into a sexual assault that occurred in Murray. As a result of that investigation, Bob Nanney (83) of Murray, KY was arrested by our officers on 6/16/2026. Mr. Nanney was charged with one count of Sexual Abuse 1st Degree.
The Murray Police Department would like to remind everyone that any person charged with a criminal offense is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

On 06/16/2026 around 9:53 PM, an officer with the Murray Police department conducted a traffic stop on North 12th St. One of the occupants of the vehicle was discovered to have an active warrant for her arrest. During the stop, K9 Bonnie was deployed and indicated to the odor of narcotics coming from the vehicle. A passenger of the vehicle was found to be in possession of illicit drugs and paraphernalia. As a result, Leah Newcomer (39) of Murray, KY was arrested and charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance 1st Degree Second Offense (Methamphetamine) and Drug Paraphernalia. Mrs. Newcomer was also charged with Failure to Pay due to her unrelated arrest warrant.
The Murray Police Department would like to remind everyone that any person charged with a criminal offense is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

The Murray Police Department is requesting the public's assistance in locating a juvenile. Investigators believe the juvenile left his residence voluntarily.

On 5/23/2026 at 3:49 AM, the Murray Police Department responded to a residence on the south side of Murray in reference to a report of a shooting. Officers responded and determined that no one had been injured. Through investigation, officers learned that Vi Jay Hill (25) of Murray, KY was at the residence and had started shooting a firearm at an individual in the residence and fled the area. Additionally, there were three other individuals inside the residence nearby when the shooting occurred. Mr. Hill was located by deputies of the Calloway County Sheriff’s Office. As a result of the investigation, the Murray Police Department arrested and charged Mr. Hill with Attempted Murder and three counts of Wanton Endangerment 1st Degree.
The Murray Police Department would like to remind everyone that any person charged with a criminal offense is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

On 5/19/2026, the Murray Police Department received information of possible criminal activity involving a member of the department. On the same date, the Murray Police Department requested that the Kentucky State Police conduct a criminal investigation into the allegations. An internal administrative investigation was also initiated by the Murray Police Department. Before the internal investigation was concluded, on 5/20/2026, Sgt. Justin Swope was arrested by the Kentucky State Police. Swope subsequently resigned from the Murray Police Department. All further inquiries should be referred to the Kentucky State Police.

This dapper gentleman is Chance. He belongs to Detective Winebarger and has been reporting to the PD for the last few weeks. He is the goodest boy and spends his time napping and visiting different offices. He always willing to accept pets, and will absolutely make you feel better if you’re having a bad day.
