Board Spotlight: Dallas Jo Conner

Today, we are shining the spotlight on our Board Chair, Dallas Jo Conner!

Dallas has been involved with CASA for more than a decade and has a deep passion and commitment to the children and families we serve!

She continues to be a huge part of helping CASA by the Lakes grow. She is always willing to listen to our staff, challenge us to think bigger, and encourage us to find new ways to improve and grow CASA. We are so grateful to have her leadership, support, and dedication to CASA!

Dallas is the owner of The Cheese Boarder Co and works as the Business Development Officer for their Marshall Market at CFSB. Beyond her dedication to CASA by the Lakes, Dallas serves on numerous community boards, is a Kentucky Lake Chamber Ambassador, and was honored as the Kentucky Chamber of Commerce Executives’ 2023 Volunteer of the Year! A true reflection of her unwavering commitment to making a difference in our community.

Thank you, Dallas, for being such a great Board Chair and for continuing to pour your time, energy, and passion into CASA by the Lakes. We are so grateful for you!

We’re so excited to be a finalist!!

We’ve officially narrowed it down to our Trellis Non-Profit Grant finalists. 💚

First, thank you to everyone who nominated an organization and to every nonprofit that took the time to apply. There are a lot of really good people doing really good work in our community, and reading through these applications reminded us of that.

A big congratulations to our finalists:

🌱 CASA by the Lakes
🌱 Generations Adult Day Service
🌱 HOPE Calloway
🌱 Murray Calloway County Senior Citizens Center
🌱 Journey Bags

From here, we’ve sent the finalist applications to a group of independent judges to help us make the final decision. And we're glad we did, because choosing between these organizations is not easy.

Two of these nonprofits will each receive more than $30,000 in marketing services from Trellis, and we’re excited to see what that can help them do.

We’ll announce the winners Friday, September 4th.

Thank you again to everyone who nominated, applied, shared, and helped us get the word out. This has been a really fun thing to be a part of, and we can’t wait for Friday.

See all these people? You could be one of them.

Our CASA volunteers come from all kinds of backgrounds. You do not need a legal background or any specialized experience. You just need a passion for advocacy and a desire to stand up for children.

We do have training that all of our volunteers must complete. It is 30 hours, but we make it flexible and work to meet you where you are. We want you to feel prepared and supported, not overwhelmed!

We are getting so close to serving more children than we did last year, and we are getting even closer to our goal of having a CASA advocate for every child in the family court system.

Over the past two weeks, we’ve been so grateful to have been able to celebrate and attend three exciting ribbon cuttings in our community! We are so grateful to each of these businesses and community projects for choosing to invest, grow, and be a part of our community.

We’re thrilled to welcome these new opportunities and look forward to watching each business and community project continue to grow and make a positive impact.

We are so grateful to Holly Cherry from Serenity Recovery of Western Kentucky, Inc for hosting an in-service training for our CASA volunteers!

Holly shared her personal testimony and provided valuable insight into ways CASA volunteers can support individuals and families struggling with addiction. It was a meaningful and informative evening, and we were thankful to have several volunteers, board members, and staff in attendance to learn more about an issue that continues to have a significant impact on our community.

We are grateful for partnerships like this one and for the opportunity to learn more about the important services Serenity Recovery and other community organizations provide to support individuals and families.

Happy National Dog Day from us at CASA by the Lakes!

Today, we’re celebrating a very special member of the CASA by the Lakes family: Penny, our honorary office dog!

Penny brings so much personality to our office. From her quick napping, to her impressive ability to destroy a toy in no time, to her continuous requests for someone to throw the ball, she keeps us entertained every time she shows up.

She’s a ball of fluff, energy, and unconditional love, and she is adored by everyone in our office, especially Jessica Foust.

In honor of Penny and all the wonderful dogs who bring joy to our lives, we want to see your dog!

Today, we are proud to spotlight Amy, who has been a dedicated CASA by the Lakes volunteer for more than five years!

Amy serves in Christian County alongside her husband as a CASA couple. She is always focused on the children and committed to making sure their needs are heard and supported.

We are incredibly grateful for her many years of service and her continued dedication as CASA by the Lakes transitioned to managing Christian County.

Thank you, Amy, for all you do for children and families in our community. We are so grateful to have you on our team!

What a fun few days at the State Fair! 🎡We kicked off the fair on Wednesday night with Agriculture Commissioner Jonathan Shell’s Farm to Fork Dinner. The funds raised through this event help provide agriculture experiences for our CASA kids, helping cover opportunities like 4-H camp, local fairs, pumpkin patches, and so much more! These are experiences that some of our CASA kiddos might not otherwise have the opportunity to enjoy, and we’re so grateful to be part of making them possible. On Thursday, Jessica had the opportunity to work the Kentucky CASA Network booth at the fair with fellow KCN staff and directors. If you’re heading to the fair, make sure to stop by and tell them hello!

And she even got to spend some time with a very special guest, Natalie! 🥰 While we definitely miss having her at CASA by the Lakes, we couldn’t be more excited to see her doing BIG things at CASA of Rochester/ Monroe County! We’re so proud of you, Natalie!
