We are less than a week away from Murray Police Department's Community Night at Chestnut Park. Next Tuesday September 8th, 2026 bring the kids out and enjoy a night of free fun with our local first responders and local nonprofit organizations. We can't wait to see you all there!

Come out and join us for the annual Murray Police Department Community Night on September 8th from 5:00 PM to 7:30 PM at Chestnut Park! There will be many local first responder agencies, community organizations, and other groups that provide services to our community. It will be a fun night for the family!

At the Calloway County Jail, we believe that accountability and rehabilitation can go hand in hand. Providing meaningful opportunities for education, personal growth, and skill development is an important part of helping individuals make positive changes and prepare for a better future.

When Programs Coordinator Deputy Jessica Childs began working at our facility in 2021, the Calloway County Jail offered just two DOC-accredited programs. Through her dedication, continued training, and commitment to expanding her knowledge and expertise, that small foundation has grown into a comprehensive programming initiative focused on rehabilitation, accountability, education, and long-term success.

📚 Growing Opportunities -
2021: We began with 2 DOC-accredited programs and expanded to 6 accredited programs by the end of the year.

2023: We added "MRT Mentor" and "Trauma" Programs, bringing our total to 8 DOC-accredited programs.

2026: We added an "Employment Readiness Program", bringing us to 9 DOC-accredited programs. This year also brought an important advancement in accessibility through the introduction of virtual programming. This allows classified state inmates — both male and female — to participate in approved programming together, via Zoom, regardless of their housing location. This is a significant step toward reaching more individuals and providing greater access to opportunities for positive change.

📈 JANUARY 2026 - AUGUST 2026 STATS:
90-day programs – 128 = $128,000
60-day programs – 82 = $49,200
Total of 210 Program Completions = $177,200

This includes 331 program sessions taught by Deputy Childs.

Even more importantly, this represents an increase over the same period last year.
January 2025 – August 2025: $157,000
January 2026 – August 2026: $177,200
That's a total increase of $20,200 in revenue – with virtual programming contributing directly to that additional revenue by allowing more eligible inmates to participate. Expanded programming provides opportunities for positive change while also generating revenue that helps offset the cost of operating our facility — ultimately helping save taxpayer dollars.

Behind every program is a staff member willing to invest time, knowledge, and encouragement into helping someone move forward. Our staff understands that rehabilitation isn't simply about completing a program — it's about providing individuals with tools they can use to make better decisions, develop healthier habits, strengthen their skills, and prepare for life beyond incarceration.
Calloway County Jail is proud of the progress our programs have made, and we are committed to continuing to expand opportunities, strengthen support, and provide meaningful pathways toward positive change. Together, we are working to build stronger individuals, stronger families, and a stronger community — one opportunity at a time.

In 2025, there were 1,100 overdose deaths in Kentucky - a 22.9% decrease from 2024. Methamphetamine was the most frequent identified substance in the toxicology results from 2025 overdose deaths, being found in 49.5% of total drug overdose deaths. Fentanyl was present in 45.4% of overdose deaths. These two substances continue to be the most prevalent drugs contributing to overdoses in the Commonwealth of Kentucky.

Encourage those you know who battle addiction, to seek help today! There are resources in our county and surrounding counties that can assist you in getting help with addiction.

Today, some of the Calloway County Jail family gathered at Chief Deputy Marshall’s house for a cookout with good food, good fellowship, and most importantly, to honor the memory of our late Captain, Mike Hopkins.

Monday, August 31st marks one year since Mike passed away, leaving behind a legacy of leadership, friendship, dedication, and service. Tonight, we sat around sharing stories and memories of our time with Mike. We laughed, we cried, and we probably told a few stories that Mike would have preferred stayed classified. 😂 But that was Mike — he had a way of making an impression on people, and somehow, he always managed to leave us with a story worth telling. For a few hours tonight, it almost felt like we were all back together again. We talked about the good times, the frustrating times, the funny times, and all those little moments that seemed ordinary then but mean so much now.

We would also like to extend a very special thank you to Melanie Cannon for presenting our staff with a beautiful memorial photo dedicated to Mike and our Calloway County Jail family. We truly appreciate this thoughtful gesture and the memories it represents. ❤️

We hope Mike is looking down on us tonight with that familiar smile, knowing just how much of an impact he had on every person who came together in his honor — whether he knew it at the time or not. We feel this sunset tonight was him telling us that!

A year later, his absence is still felt. There are still moments when we catch ourselves wishing we could hear his voice, see his smile, or have him standing around giving us his opinion — whether we asked for it or not. 😂

His leadership helped shape this jail. His friendship touched the lives of countless people. And his memory continues to bring us together. Tonight was about remembering a man who meant so much to all of us and celebrating the legacy he left behind.

Until we see you again, Captain. Keep an eye on us — and try not to criticize the way we’re doing things too much from up there. We already know what you’d say 😆

Following the severe storms that moved through Calloway County last night, bringing 100+ mph winds and leaving trees and debris across roadways, Calloway County Jail Class D Workhouse inmates were out in our community today helping clear roadways and remove storm debris.

Our Class D Workhouse Program provides an opportunity for eligible low level state inmates to work out in our community while serving their sentences. This work helps save our county tax dollars while keeping our roadways and community cleaner, safer and more accessible for the residents of Calloway County, while also allowing these men to develop a sense of responsibility, work ethic, and pride in making a positive contribution.

A special thank you to Class D Coordinator Lieutenant Brad Rowland and Deputy Jailer Johnny Duffy for supervising the work detail and ensuring the inmates could safely assist with the cleanup efforts. We are proud of the positive impact this program continues to make throughout Calloway County.

County Jail Donation – We recognized Matthew Kohlenberger of Twin Lakes Construction for donating labor and materials to paint the jail workhouse. We appreciate a local business stepping forward to help our county.

We appreciate the Leadership Initiative for Teachers (LIFT) Program for coming by and taking a tour of our facility and learning what our deputy jailers do on a daily basis. We appreciate Lt. Taylor Black and Programs Coordinator Deputy Jessica Childs for taking the time to share information about our facility, our staff, and the various responsibilities involved in working in a correctional facility.

The LIFT program is a partnership between the Murray-Calloway Chamber of Commerce, Murray Independent School District, Calloway County Schools and local businesses to ensure our local educators are able to help students succeed in their potential future careers. The LIFT program is designed to spark innovative thinking and discussion between our community educators and business leaders. This experience will allow teachers to make classroom activities and discussion more relevant to the needs of students and better prepare them for emerging business demands.

The Calloway County Jail is warning the public about a scam involving callers falsely claiming to be Deputy Jailers, requesting bond money or money for ankle monitors to be paid over the phone.

📣 PLEASE REMEMBER: The jail, any law enforcement agency, or the court will NEVER call and request bond money over the phone. We also do not call requesting money for an ankle monitor over the phone either.

• Over the phone
• Online
• Through CashApp/Venmo/PayPal

💵 ALL payments are accepted ONLY in cash at the Judicial Building during business hours or at the Calloway County Jail after business hours.

If you receive a suspicious call demanding immediate payment for an inmate’s bond and/or ankle monitor services, DO NOT send money or provide financial information. Hang up and contact the appropriate agency directly using an official phone number.

Please share this information with your friends and family. These scammers often target people who are worried about a loved one and use urgency and fear to pressure them into sending money.
