Day 7, May 23rd, of National EMS Week is EMS Remembrance Day.

On this day, we want to bring attention to EMS personnel across the nation that have lost their lives in the line-of-duty while committing their lives to caring for others.

Day 6, May 22nd, of National EMS Week is EMS Recognition Day.

On this day, we want to bring attention to day-in and day-out efforts of our nation’s EMS workforce. Tirelessly, they provide the care and attention that all pre-hospital patients need to aid in their recovery. It’s not an easy profession with the hurried half-eaten meals; the long nights that turn into early mornings; and the calls that never leave you.

Even with these challenges, we find ourselves blessed with women and men across the nation that answer the call to serve others. 🇺🇸

Emergency Medical Services is a challenging profession for all of those involved. The good news is that we don’t have to go it alone. 🙌

Cherokee County EMS was reminded of this during National EMS Week when Erlanger Western Carolina Hospital treated our EMS workers with a catered lunch. Providing the staff with a barbecue lunch, it was a great gesture toward the ultimate goal of Cherokee County EMS, Effective Patient Care. With these caring acts, we can more easily move forward with the year’s motto from 2026 EMS Week.

“Improving Outcomes, together.”

🚑 Emergencies happen every day. Good news is, we can all be helpful in these moments. Learning some life-saving techniques will benefit those around you in times of need.

Day 5, May 21st, of National EMS Week is Save-A-Life Day.

On this day, we want to bring attention to the positive and proactive advantages of understanding and applying lifesaving techniques to victims.

Let's do the following to make sure that happens:
– Learn and keep current CPR training. ❤️‍🩹

🚑 EMS shows up for everyone, regardless. On the worst days, those emergency calls can involve injured or sick children. We want to make sure that we are prepared, both mentally and tactically, to handle those calls.

Day 4, May 20th, of National EMS Week is EMS for Children Day. 👧

On this day, we want to bring attention to the special needs and characteristics of pre-hospital care that involve children.

Let's do the following to make sure that happens:
❤️ – Be a comfort those involved. That can be the children and the parents.
✏️ – Brush up on the techniques used while caring for pediatric patients.
🚗 – Educate motorists on proper restraints for children.

Use your positive position to have a positive impact on their lives!

❤️‍🩹While transporting and caring for patients is the name of the game, it's important to acknowledge the necessity for self-care, reduction of stress, improving mental health.❤️‍🩹

Day 3, May 19th, of National EMS Week is EMS Safety Day. 🙌

Ultimately, safety has to be a priority. Safety, for the patient, providers, and the public. Whether it's their mental or physical health, EMS workers need to maintain and care for themselves, so they can provide that effective, safe atmosphere for the patients and the public.

Let's do the following to make sure that happens:
🫶 - Take care of yourselves!
🧐 - Check on your partners.
💪 - Practice proper lifting techniques.
🚧 - Maintain situational awareness.

Take the time to care for yourselves and you'll be better at helping others!

Cabarrus County EMS hosted the EMS Officer II-Compliance course over the weekend and welcomed members from the EMS systems of Cabarrus, Cherokee, Cleveland, Dare, Davie, Iredell, Stanly, and Cherokee Tribal. Congratulations to all!

📝 Textbooks and tests. Continuing education. Certifiable. 📓

Day 2, May 18th, of National EMS Week is Education Day. 🍎

Whether they are an EMT-Basic, Advanced EMT, or Paramedic, all of Cherokee County's EMS workforce are certified emergency medical providers.

And, of course, the education never ends. Certification upon certification and class after class, can be used in an effort to become a better, more educated provider.

Also, the EMS workforce commonly assist the communities they are part of with classes and tutorials of life-saving measures. 🚑

While the ultimate goal of Cherokee County EMS is effective patient care, we recognize the need for EMS workers to care for themselves and their coworkers as well. 🤝

Day 1, May 17th, of National EMS Week is Health, Wellness and Resilience Day. 💪

Among all the challenges of providing EMS care:
☎️ - Responding to calls.
🩺 - Administering patient care.
🚑 - Providing quick and safe transport.....we must show our support for and understanding of the physical, mental, and emotional toll it can have on EMS staff.

Take some time, all EMS personnel, to be proud of yourselves and show support for those around you. 🦸‍♂️
