Free summer meals for kids are back! ☀️

MCS Feeding Sites begin Monday, June 1, offering free food for all children 18 and under. Please note: school-based locations will be closed June 29–July 3.

This year, we’re excited to partner with our Communications & Family Engagement team to bring even more to our community. MERV (Mobile Educational Resource Van) is joining CHOW (Combatting Hunger on Wheels) and CHEWY (Cultivating Healthy Eating with Youth) and will be out weekly, and all three mobile food vehicles will feature fun, themed activities for kids.

Come eat, learn, and have some fun with us this summer!

It’s my 2025-2026 pen pal from the Salem Elementary Student Council! Sienna and I have been exchanging letters about leadership all year, and today I got to meet her (and her mom and grandmother) in person. She’s bound for great things in middle school and beyond!

Kids are always dreaming about what they want to be when they grow up. I spent Friday morning seeing our students get more ideas for those dreams. I stopped by Career Day at Scales Elementary School where the kindergarteners were outside getting hands-on lessons from community helpers. Then I helped interview 5th and 6th graders at Discovery School for their upcoming jobs at JA BizTown. Thank you to all the volunteers who spent their morning inspiring our students!

Yesterday MCS held a luncheon to thank our dedicated volunteers, including the churches who keep our backpack program running. This effort sends food home on Fridays in the backpacks of kids who might otherwise be hungry over the weekend without school meals. Pictured: me with Byron Glenn, who has served as the PTO President at Scales Elementary School for the past two years.

Thanks to all our volunteers! If you or your organization would like to volunteer with Murfreesboro City Schools, please message me, and I’ll connect you to the right person to get you started.
