This week Rutherford County Emergency Management Agency hosted a local Emergency Operations Center (EOC) training with responders and partner agencies from across the county in attendance.

Trainings like this strengthen coordination, communication, and preparedness among the agencies that serve our community. By working together before emergencies happen, our EOC is better prepared to operate effectively during disasters, severe weather events, and other large-scale incidents.

Thank you to everyone who participated and continues to support emergency preparedness efforts throughout Rutherford County. Working together helps keep our community safer and more resilient.

Even though severe weather is not in the forecast today, do you have a storm shelter or safe room at your home? Make sure it’s registered with Emergency Management.

Registering your shelter helps first responders locate you more quickly after severe weather if debris blocks the entrance or communication is limited. Storm shelter registries are used by emergency personnel to assist with post-storm search and rescue efforts.

Registration is simple and only takes a few minutes.

Tennesseans affected by Winter Storm Fern have less than one month left to apply for FEMA Individual Assistance (IA). The deadline to apply is Wednesday, June 10, 2026.

Survivors can apply to FEMA or ask questions in several ways:
• Visit DisasterAssistance.gov.
• Call 800-621-FEMA (3362). If you use a relay service, captioned telephone, or other service, give FEMA your number for that service.
• Use the FEMA app.
• Visit a Disaster Recovery Center. No appointment is needed. To find center locations near you, go to fema.gov/drc or text “DRC” and a ZIP Code to 43362.

After the June 10 deadline, survivors who have already applied can continue to submit paperwork, file appeals and update their applications through their FEMA account.
