There’s something special about the way younger students look up to our high school athletes. Members of the Munster Mustangs boys volleyball and baseball teams spent time welcoming elementary students with smiles, high fives, and encouragement.

Moments like these remind us that our high school students are more than athletes — they are role models, leaders, and examples for the next generation of Mustangs. Thank you to our student-athletes for making such a positive impact on our younger students and school community.

The School Town of Munster is saddened to share the passing of legendary Munster High School swimming coach Jon Jepsen on June 4th, 2026.

Coach Jepsen dedicated 24 years to Munster High School and built one of the most successful swimming programs in Indiana history. During his remarkable coaching career, Munster captured seven boys state championships, produced 24 individual state champions, earned 22 sectional titles, and achieved 14 undefeated seasons. His teams finished among the top five in the state 18 times, and the Seahorses set a state record with 104 consecutive dual meet victories - source: ihssdhof.org/jon-jepsen.

A respected leader both on the pool deck and throughout the coaching profession, Coach Jepsen earned numerous honors, including Indiana High School Swimming Coach of the Year four times and Sectional Coach of the Year 16 times. His influence extended far beyond wins and championships, impacting generations of student-athletes through his commitment to excellence, discipline, and character.

In recognition of his extraordinary contributions to Munster athletics, the Munster Aquatic Center pool was dedicated in his honor in 2011 and proudly bears the name Jon Jepsen Pool.

Coach Jepsen's legacy remains woven into the history of Munster High School and the lives of the many athletes, families, and colleagues he inspired throughout his career.

Visitation will be Saturday 6/13/26 from 1-3pm, and a grave site service at 3pm. Hendersonville Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, 353 E. Main St. in Hendersonville, TN

We extend our heartfelt condolences to Coach Jepsen's family, friends, former athletes, and all those whose lives he touched. His legacy will continue to inspire generations of Mustangs.
