Today we celebrate the hardworking, dedicated library professionals who power possibility in our neighborhoods, our schools, and our places of higher learning. As library workers across the U.S. continue to face challenges to their jobs and harassment from bad actors, it's essential we show up for them and voice our support for the work they do every day.

We join librarians across Michigan in expressing our profound sadness over the passing of our wonderful State Librarian Randy Riley. He was a tireless advocate for literacy and libraries and a friend to everyone he met. While we will feel the loss of his steady leadership, the results of all his good works on our behalf will resonate for years to come.

The is sad to announce the passing of Randy Riley. Randy served as the State Librarian since 2014. He joined in 1989 and held several positions, including reference librarian, head of Special Collections, and Coordinator. More details will soon be announced.
