The Society for Women Engineers recently recognized senior high school students who are going into STEM fields in which women are traditionally underrepresented. It also recognized sophomore and junior students who have expressed an interest in STEM careers through their high school work.

High school chemistry teacher Mrs. Ranade nominated three students, and the SWE recognized all three with a certificate of merit. Congratulations to Sara Nguyen, Ana Wehrer, and senior Aubrey Guciardo. The SWE wrote a personal handwritten note for each honree, and Aubrey also received a $100 Amazon gift card.

Congratulations to all three students and thank you to the Society for Women Engineers for recognizing our students!

Since graduating from Steel Valley in 2016, Noah Alexandroff has embarked on an unexpected journey away from mechanical engineering and into the untamed wilderness of artificial intelligence and machine learning. He's found success by being willing to pivot and by embracing new challenges.

During his speech to the Class of 2026 at Steel Valley's 55th annual commencement, Alexandroff offered encouragement to the graduates and advice on how to navigate their own transitions in their lives.

“Every single one of these shifts have come with a huge amount of uncertainty. There are a lot of moving parts in this world that you simply cannot control, and if you let the things that you can't control drive your actions, you will overthink, and you'll get stuck,” he told the graduates in his speech. “I've learned that the most practical way to get unstuck is by letting go the things that you can't change. I frequently find myself saying control what you can control, and that's really the best advice that I can give to this graduating class on how to navigate any transition.”
