** Search For Wanted Suspect - Community Awareness **

At approximately 2:30 a.m. Munford PD officers and Tipton County Deputies pursued a vehicle that crashed on Dawson Rd. and the driver was able to elude officers.

At approximately 7:00 a.m. this morning, Deputies received a call of a suspiscious male black in the Hwy. 59W/Burlison Ln/Baskin Rd areas. Upon arrival, the male observed Deputies and fled into a wooded area. A search for the subject has not been successful thus far and is positively the same driver of the vehicle that crashed on Dawson Rd.

We urge area residents to stay aware and contact 901-475-4300 or 911 if you see this male. At last sight he was shirtless and wearing green/blue and white shorts. The photo below is the suspect as he was fleeing.

📢 Congratulations to Our Brothers in Law Enforcement 📢

The Munford Police Department would like to congratulate Tipton County Deputies Dakota Wilkerson and Samuel Chastain, along with Lauderdale County Deputy Bryan Lane and Dyer County Sgt. Lynn Waller, following today’s acquittal in their trial.

After hearing the evidence presented during the trial, Circuit Court Judge Mark Hayes acquitted all four officers of the charges against them.

We know the past several months have been incredibly difficult for these officers and their families. We are thankful that this chapter has reached a conclusion and that these men can begin moving forward with their lives and careers.

Munford PD has stood behind these officers from day one, and we will continue to stand beside our brothers and sisters in law enforcement. Law enforcement is a brotherhood, and we support those who put on the badge and serve their communities.

Our thoughts and prayers also remain with the family of Ellie Young as they continue to navigate their loss.

To the citizens and law enforcement family across Tipton, Lauderdale and Dyer Counties who showed their support throughout this process—thank you.

📢 Deputies Acquitted 📢

The trial involving four area law enforcement officers began Tuesday morning and concluded today when Circuit Court Judge Mark Hayes acquitted all four officers of the charges against them.

Tipton County Deputies Dakota Wilkerson and Samuel Chastain, Lauderdale County Deputy Bryan Lane, and Dyer County Sgt. Lynn Waller were charged in connection with their alleged actions during the October 19, 2024 arrest of Jackson Hopper, following a multi-county pursuit. Hopper was being sought in connection with the shooting death of his former girlfriend, Ellie Young in Memphis. Two other deputies still have charges pending and are awaiting court dates.

We want to sincerely thank the men and women of the Dyer County jury for their time and service, and Judge Hayes for the careful consideration he gave to the evidence and issues presented throughout this trial.

We are thankful this part of the process has reached its conclusion and that these officers and their families can now move forward. We stood behind all of these men and believed in them from day one and will continue to stand with them until the very end.

We continue to keep the family of Ellie Young in our thoughts and prayers as they continue to heal and we thank them for their support throughout this process.

Thank you to our Tipton County citizens, and friends from Lauderdale and Dyer Counties for your many comments, phone calls and text messages of support for all these deputies.

Today is likely to be the apex of this extended heat wave as the mercury climbs to 102°, the hottest we've been in 3 years. Heat indices reach 110°. Highs will still be near 100° for a few more days though, so remain vigilant and check on those who may need assistance.

Munford High School Threat Investigation – Arrest Made

The Munford Police Department has arrested a 16-year-old juvenile in connection with the false threat made against Munford High School earlier today.

Munford Police detectives, working in coordination with the Department of Homeland Security, were able to identify the individual responsible for making the threat. Munford Police officers subsequently responded to the juvenile’s residence and took the juvenile into custody without incident.

The juvenile has been charged with Threatening to Commit an Act of Mass Violence on School Property, a Class E felony under Tennessee law.

The juvenile will be held at a juvenile detention facility pending a court hearing.

We want to thank our detectives, officers, the Department of Homeland Security, and our law enforcement partners (Tipton County Sheriffs Office, Atoka PD, THP, Constable Mayo)for their quick and thorough response.

Bomb Threat at Munford High School Determined to Be False Swatting Call

Munford, Tennessee — August 13, 2026 — The Munford Police Department responded to a reported bomb threat at Munford High School today.

Upon receiving the threat, officers immediately responded to the school and worked with school officials to ensure the safety of students and staff. As a precaution, students were evacuated from the building and moved to a safe location outside while officers investigated the report.

After conducting an assessment and coordinating with school officials, law enforcement determined that there was no credible threat to the school or those inside. The incident was determined to be a false swatting call.

Students and staff were allowed to return once the building was determined to be safe.

The Munford Police Department takes all threats against schools seriously and will continue to investigate the origin of this false report. Making a false report of an emergency is a serious offense and can result in criminal charges.

We appreciate the cooperation of Munford High School administrators, faculty, students, parents, and responding law enforcement personnel during the incident.
