We had so much fun helping kids and families pick out costumes at the Halloween Costume Giveaway at Maring-Hunt Library last weekend! We are already thinking about next year's event and invite you to drop off your donations at any MPL branch throughout the year. We will store them for next year's effort to make sure kids have costumes to celebrate Halloween fun!

Attention book lovers--and if you are visiting this page, we’re guessing you are a book lover! Here are two upcoming events for you to enjoy. On Saturday, November 7, meet and chat with 20 local authors at the Author Fair at Kennedy Library. Each author will have copies of their books available for sale and signing.

Then on Monday, November 9, join us as Chris Lafave, curator of the Kurt Vonnegut Museum and Library, speaks on Vonnegut’s banned book “Cat’s Cradle” and other related topics. It’s part of the Droids & Dragons Book Club, but everyone is invited to attend this discussion centered on Vonnegut, who is widely regarded as one of Indiana's greatest authors. Don’t miss either of these free adult programs!

The Halloween Costume Giveaway is almost here and our employees, especially the Ready Readers Early Literacy team, have been busy steaming and sorting the costumes to get ready. THANK YOU to the many generous library patrons and community members who donated new and gently used costumes to make sure kids have a costume to wear as they celebrate Halloween!

The giveaway was super popular last year and may have been a bit overwhelming for little ones. This year, tickets will be given to each family as they arrive and then ticket numbers will be called in the order distributed to give kids, accompanied by their caregivers, a chance to pick out new-to-you costumes in a more relaxed atmosphere. The event begins at 2pm on Saturday, October 17 at Maring-Hunt Library in the Meeting Room.

Note: The library opens at 1 pm so there is a possibility a line will start forming at that time.
