This opportunity for state recognition is for businesses that have been in continuous operation for 50 or 100 years. If you or someone you know qualifies, please consider applying by May 30. If the deadline is too short, I was told it can be extended by a week or two.

Indiana is now accepting applications for the 2026 Governor's Century & Half Century Awards, which honor businesses that have remained in operation for at least 100 or 50 years respectively, and have demonstrated a commitment to serving their community. Hoosier businesses that meet the award criteria and have had continuous operations in Indiana for 100 or 50 years by Dec. 31, 2025, will be recognized at a ceremony by Governor Mike Braun at the Indiana Statehouse later this year.

Learn more about eligibility criteria and apply online https://iedc.in.gov/events/news/details/2026/04/21/governor-braun-invites-hoosier-businesses-to-apply-for-century-half-century-business-awards
Applications are due by May 30, 2026.

Great news! My race for the Indiana House was given a Target Race designation today by the Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee - DLCC, the only organization responsible for the national strategy to elect Democrats to legislatures across all 50 states.

That means they believe in our campaign and know that winning in this district is critical to Democrats building power and picking up seats in the chamber.

As chaos unfolds in Washington, working families need the support of their state legislators more than ever. Public education, economic opportunity, workers’ rights, and access to the ballot are on the line. With your help and support, I’ll fight for our values in the Indiana House.

Today I got an email and a text from Indiana American Water letting me know that they are flushing Muncie's water distribution system starting today and continuing through July 7. In case you didn't get the notice, here it is: https://awgis.amwater.com/CustomerAdvisoryMap/
Read the full advisory notice and you'll see IAW is preparing us for possible reduced water pressure and/or discoloration when the crew is working in an area.

My water still tastes and smells ok. I've talked to friends who say it's as bad as ever and others who say it's improved. How about yours?

Two goldfish, Goldie and Spot, live in the little pond behind my house. Two days ago I noticed Spot was missing, and Goldie was acting strange – hiding and not eating. This afternoon I found Spot trapped between the side of the pond the filter box. With the help of a friend, we removed rocks and the filter box so Spot could escape. Goldie and Spot immediately found each other and started swimming around excitedly. I dropped fish food into the pond and they both ate like they were famished. They both continue to act like their normal selves. However, I noticed that spot now has a couple more white Spots on his body. I think he rubbed off some scales trying to escape the trap. Does anybody know if losing scales will harm him or will he grow them back?

Update on Muncie's water problem. I talked with Jammie Bane, administrator of the Delaware Co. Health Department. They have been getting calls from residents. They don't have a lab in-house but this week they took samples from two affected homes - one on the north and one the east towards Selma. Both get water from the Prairie Creek Reservoir. They sent it to an independent lab. He said they will release the results to the p***c as soon as they are back from the lab. They are testing for coliform which is always present when pathogens such as e-coli are in the water. In the meantime, here is the link to IDEM's Drinking Water Viewer where you can see Indiana-American Water's report to IDEM on the tests they did on April 17 at Prairie Creek.
https://indwv.gecsws.com/ From this link, enter IN5218012 into the field for "Water System ID"and press enter. This is the identifier for Indiana American Water Muncie. Look for Samples and click Microbial/Coliform. (If you're using your phone, click the Menu in the right upper corner to get to samples). You'll see they collected three samples on 4/17/26 and sent the results to IDEM on 4/22/26. It takes a few days for the test to show results so that's the reason for the 5 days between testing and reporting. You'll see that Coliform was absent from all three tests. That's a good sign and the reason Indiana American Water is saying despite the bad odor and taste, the water is safe to drink. The Health Dept. test results will confirm or cotradict the water company report. I've also asked IDEM if they have conducted their own test but have not yet heard back. I was at the reservoir yesterday and know that Indiana American Water continues to treat the water. If you are experiencing the bad taste and odor, has it improved since my last post?

A welcomed step forward for families and businesses. Senate Enrolled Act that's mentioned in the article opened the door for Governor Braun to add $200 million to the child care voucher program. This will allow 14,000 children to leave the 35,400 child care waitlist.

If Indiana wants more working parents — especially moms — back in the game, we must treat child care like the economic infrastructure it is.

Saturday night I had the privilege and honor of presenting the Governor's Distinguished Hoosier Award to Bibi Bahrami at the annual AWAKEN dinner. Bibi's passion for helping others comes from the heart and her success comes from the mind. This is well-deserved recognition of her humanitarian work.

On April 18, Bibi Bahrami, Founder and President of AWAKEN (Afghan Women’s and Kids’ Education and Necessities), was named a Distinguished Hoosier by Gov. Mike Braun. The award was presented by State Rep. Sue Errington (D-Muncie) at AWAKEN’s annual fundraising dinner in Muncie.

This is always an inspiring event.
