The Delaware County Highway Department is accepting applications for a full-time Mechanic to help maintain and repair the trucks, heavy equipment, and tools that keep our county moving.

This is a hands-on position for someone with strong mechanical skills who can diagnose problems, make repairs, fabricate parts, and keep equipment operating safely and efficiently.

Key responsibilities include:

Preventative maintenance and vehicle/equipment repairs
Diagnosing mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical problems
Repairing engines, transmissions, brakes, hydraulic systems, and other components
Welding, cutting, machining, and fabricating parts
Installing plow frames, hitches, and other equipment
Maintaining detailed maintenance and repair records
Keeping the garage and work areas clean and organized

Qualifications include:
✅ High school diploma or HSE
✅ Knowledge of gasoline and diesel engines and hydraulic systems
✅ Mechanical troubleshooting and repair skills
✅ Welding and fabrication abilities
✅ Ability to read schematics and technical manuals
✅ Valid Class B CDL and safe driving record
✅ Ability to lift more than 50 pounds and perform physically demanding work
✅ Ability to work extended, weekend, or evening hours when needed

Regular Schedule:

🚛 WE’RE HIRING: TRUCK DRIVER

The Delaware County Highway Department – Bridge Division is accepting applications for a full-time Truck Driver.

This position plays an important role in keeping Delaware County’s bridges, roads, drainage systems, and rights-of-way safe and maintained throughout the year.

Key responsibilities include:

Operating trucks and heavy equipment
Hauling stone, asphalt, dirt, salt, sand, and other materials
Maintaining bridges, culverts, ditches, and drainage structures
Removing brush, fallen trees, and storm debris
Repairing culverts, bridge decks, and approaches
Snow and ice removal and emergency response
Maintaining vehicles, equipment, and required records

Qualifications include:
✅ High school diploma or HSE
✅ At least 18 years old
✅ Valid driver’s license
✅ Valid Class B CDL with a safe driving record
✅ Ability to perform physically demanding outdoor work
✅ Ability to work independently and as part of a team
✅ Availability for emergency response, extended hours, evenings, and weekends as needed

Disaster Recovery Center Coming to Delaware County

The Indiana Department of Homeland Security (IDHS), in coordination with FEMA, will open a Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) in Delaware County to assist residents and businesses impacted by the recent disaster.

The Disaster Recovery Center will serve as a one-stop location for disaster recovery assistance, bringing together approximately 15 state and federal agencies and partner organizations. Residents and business owners will have an opportunity to meet directly with representatives, ask questions about their individual circumstances, and receive assistance navigating available disaster recovery programs and resources.

Representatives will be available to help individuals better understand the assistance for which they may be eligible, address questions related to the recovery process, and connect disaster survivors with appropriate state, federal, and partner resources.

Federal assistance:

- FEMA: Individual Assistance application support
- U.S. Small Business Administration: Disaster loan information for individuals

State assistance:

- Housing support: Temporary housing assistance
- Social services: Crisis counseling and mental health service referrals
- Insurance guidance: Help reviewing insurance policies and replacing documents
- Motor vehicle assistance: Support with registrations and licenses
- Public health resources: Vaccination records, vital records (birth and death certificates), tetanus shots, and cleanup guidance
- State Disaster Relief Fund: Assistance with SDRF applications

SBA DISASTER LOANS AVAILABLE FOR DELAWARE COUNTY

Following the Aug. 25 Presidential disaster declaration, the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) is offering low-interest disaster loans to homeowners, renters, businesses, and private nonprofit organizations affected by the severe storms, tornadoes, straight-line winds, and flooding that began Aug. 11.

Delaware County is included in the disaster declaration.

🏠 Homeowners & Renters
• Up to $500,000 to repair or replace a primary residence
• Up to $100,000 to repair or replace personal property, including furniture, appliances, clothing, and vehicles

🏢Businesses & Private Nonprofits
• Up to $2 million to repair or replace disaster-damaged real estate, equipment, inventory, and other business assets
• Eligible small businesses and nonprofits may also qualify for Economic Injury Disaster Loans (EIDL) to help with working capital needs such as payroll, fixed debts, accounts payable, and other expenses affected by the disaster, even if they did not suffer physical damage.

Interest rates are as low as:
• 4% for businesses
• 3.625% for private nonprofits
• 3% for homeowners and renters

Loan terms may be available for up to 30 years. Interest does not begin to accrue, and payments are not due until **12 months after the first loan disbursement.
