A Word from WaTasha
Last month's flooding across Delaware County brought the urgency of our facilities situation into sharp focus. Our current emergency shelter was directly impacted. Our basement flooded, leaving significant water and debris and creating concerns about our building systems and electrical infrastructure. Our staff had to respond while continuing to care for women and children who were already experiencing crisis.
The flood placed tremendous stress on our staff, our building, our operation...and on me as the CEO.
It was another reminder that we cannot continue to ask an aging facility to carry the weight of the services, and the community needs we are being called to meet.
The Yes, ME! Capital Campaign is not simply about having a newer or nicer building. It is about having a safe, sustainable, accessible, and purpose-built campus that allows us to serve people with dignity and respond to the growing needs of our community.
Why Your Advocacy Matters
This is where I need all of you to help.
Your role is not simply to know what we are doing. I need you to help tell the story.
When you are in rooms with business leaders, elected officials, foundations, banks, community organizations, churches, civic leaders, and potential donors, I want you to be able to speak confidently about the Yes, ME! Campaign and why it matters. You can give here.
But this isn’t all about money.
We need people opening doors.
We need introductions.
We need advocates who can say, “You need to hear what the YWCA is doing."
We need people who will help us identify resources, potential partners, campaign prospects, and opportunities that we may not be able to reach on our own.
We are building something significant at Garfield, but we cannot do it alone.
I am incredibly proud of the work happening right now. There is momentum. There are people leaning in. There are conversations happening that could lead to significant partnerships and investments.
But we also have to be honest about the urgency.
The need is here. The vision is here.
Thank you for continuing to stand with me, believe in this vision, and use your voice and your relationships to help move the YWCA forward.
Our operational needs continue. That’s what our annual HEELS fundraiser does for us. Please register today for HEELS 2026. It’s Oct. 22 at the Horizon Convention Center: https://ywcacentralindiana-bloom.kindful.com/e/put-yourself-in-her-heels-2026
