History and success has been made today. Although the path to reach it was not easy. Countless hurdles & unforeseen obstacles did not stop these two powerful persevering CEO’s! It is done!! ✅

Yes, that is an entire truck bed absolutely full of dirty blankets and pillows. We did an overnight shelter staffing at The Norm again this past week, and then today we took the blankets and pillows and washed everything at the laundromat. It cost us $160 to wash and dry everything.

Did you know that The Norm doesn't get any assistance for running the overnight shelter like they do? Without them, and the new Price Hall overnight shelter, there is no doubt in our mind that people just would have not made it through the extreme weather that we've been having the past few weeks.

The Norm could use a little bit of help with the financial burden that being open like that creates. Whether you throw in a few bucks here for their electric bill, a few bucks there for their water bill, or some towards their heating bill, it would really make a difference!

And if you want to throw in a few extra bucks towards our upcoming laundry day, we'd appreciate that too!

We appreciate our community, and know that we could not do this without you!

💙 Price Hall Warming Center:
Why the Need Is Ongoing
From: CEO Curtisa Goodwin,
& COO Katina Strauch

The Price Hall Warming Center has been an eye-opening experience—even for me, after 26 years in the housing profession. I have seen and heard stories from the participants we serve that stay with you. This Center is more than what it appears on the surface.

Price Hall provides a clean, warm, and welcoming place where people can socialize, rest in peace, enjoy a hot meal every night, watch TV, charge their phones, and simply feel human again. It’s a place of dignity and safety.

Every evening around 4:45 PM, we begin to see people lining up at the door. Why? Because at 5:30 PM, we open, greet them, ask about their day—and they ask, respectfully, what’s on the menu.

Last night, dinner was homemade Chicken Alfredo with broccoli and garlic bread. I made enough that many had two to four servings. Their excitement fuels those of us who give our time away from our own families to be here. As they came in, we had 35–40 individuals visit. Some stay the night; others stop in just to get warm and eat before heading back out.

We will be closed tonight. Maintenance will conduct a deep clean. Yet in the corner is a table of folded blankets belonging to participants who anticipate coming back!

And there are real success stories.

Just yesterday, one young man told us he wanted to get clean. We helped get him into a rehab facility. Another participant had her résumé in her bag when a job opening became available. It was impressive. We began the hiring process—and now she and her family are employed and no longer part of the homeless population.

In a previous partnership, several participants were placed into rehab. When transportation wasn’t available, our COO and I personally drove them. One of those individuals still contacts us regularly with updates on her continued success.

Why Donations Matter

The need never stops.

• The socks you donated helped someone last night whose bike was stolen and whose feet were blistered from walking in wet shoes.
• The blankets you give provide warmth after long days in the cold.
• The clothes help people who literally have only what they’re wearing.
• The food ensures we can keep serving hot meals.
• And monetary donations allow the Center itself to stay open.

*There is a common misconception that Price Hall receives government funding. It does not.*

Price Hall is a self-sustaining building under the AHDC III arm of MHA. It receives no government funding or subsidy of any kind. It normally sits vacant. Opening the Warming Center has significantly increased utility costs, and our CFO works strategically within very limited means to keep it operating.

We cannot sustain food or operations without donations. We rely on support from partners like The New Norm, Chariots of Fire, Second Harvest, and many generous individuals. Much of what is provided—food, supplies, and essentials—has also come directly out of pocket from myself and Katina.

The $500 donation we received was placed back into AHDC III (Affordable Housing Development Corporation III), which is why we ask that any monetary donations be designated specifically to AHDC III for Price Hall.

Why We Keep Going

We are passionate about this Center. We stepped out on faith and became something very important to the community we serve.

Dropping off prepared meals means the world—not just to participants, but to us. It gives us more time to care for them. They are so deserving of the things many of us take for granted each day, and we want to continue to have the ability to provide them.

We thank the three committed volunteers who have made this all possible. Without them, this Center could not function.

And to our community: thank you for believing in this mission, for supporting it, and for helping us keep the doors open. 💙

💙 Community Update – Price Hall Warming Center 💙

We are beyond grateful for the way our community has come together to support the Price Hall Warming Center. This Center has truly become a tremendous asset to the population it was created to serve, and the impact is visible every single night.

From the many donations that have poured in to the amazing people we’ve met along the way, the generosity and compassion of this community continue to inspire us. We are especially thankful to share that we recently received our first and only monetary donation of $500.00 from Ms. Amy Reed. As the Center continues to grow, we pray that the community’s support continues to magnify.

Each night, we consistently serve 16–25 individuals who rely on the Warming Center for comfort, safety, nourishment, and hospitality to carry them into the next day.

We want to publicly acknowledge and thank the following donors who have given so graciously (and many more who chose to remain anonymous):

✨ The New Norm – Providing dinner every other day for our participants
✨ The Ark – Collected funds to purchase cots and provided mats
✨ YWCA
✨ A Better Way
✨ Boys & Girls Club – Donation of hygiene kits
✨ Second Harvest – Continues to provide nourishment
✨ The HUB
✨ Lana Swoape - Multiple donations on several occasions
✨ Courtney Smith – Providing phones weekly
✨ Muncie Folk Collective
✨ MacKenzie Barnhouse
✨ MHA Board Commissioner Jeff Brandon and his church
✨ American Legion
✨ Grace Pinnacle
✨ Dawn Fogelson
✨ Addie Lindsey (donating her time nightly to run the kitchen)
✨ Maxine Cummings
✨ Vickie Hitchen
✨ Mrs. Meadows
✨ Jane of Hartmyer Stables
✨ Joy Kennedy
Paradise Nail Spa
✨ Kim – Thank you for the two pans of amazing lasagna and additional donated items!

Many donations have come in while I wasn’t present, so if we missed your name, please comment below or send us a message so you can receive the recognition you absolutely deserve. My apologies as well for any misspellings.

👉 Current Needs:
• Beverages, coffee, creamer
• Paper cups, bowls, utensils
• Packaged snacks
• Volunteers – Many times we’ve had to consider closing due to lack of volunteer coverage. Even giving a few hours of your time allows our continual volunteers to go home, rest, and regroup. Every hour truly matters and is deeply appreciated.

👉 Monetary donations also help keep the building operating, as Price Hall does not receive any funding and is fully self-sustaining. If you choose to provide monetarily make all donations out to the Muncie Housing Authority - AHDCIII or specify it is strictly for the PHWC to assure every penny is accounted for the Price Hall Warming Center.

👉 We are still accepting donations daily from 5:30 PM to 7:30 AM.

On behalf of the Muncie Housing Authority, thank you for your greatness, your support, and your heart for this community. 💫
