Today, April 29th, is Denim Day 2026. Denim Day began after a 1999 ruling of an Italian Supreme Court that overturned a r**e conviction. They felt that because the victim weas wearing tight jeans, they must have helper her ra**st remove them, which would imply consent.

After the conviction was overturned, women in the Italian Parliament came to work wearing jeans to show their support for the victim.

The origin of this day was to support victims & to stand up against victim blaming. Our words matter and carry power. 💙💙

In 1996, 89% of Indiana's voters approved of a State Constitutional Amendment for victims' rights. Article 1, Section 13(b) of the Constitution of the State of Indiana provides as follows:

"Victims of crime, as defined by law, shall have the right to be treated with fairness, dignity and respect throughout the criminal justice process; and, as defined by law, to be informed of and present during public hearings and to confer with the prosecution, to the extent that exercising these rights does not infringe upon the constitutional rights of the accused."

April 19th to 25th, 2026, is recognized as the annual National Crime Victims’ Rights Week. Observed each April since 1981, National Crime Victims’ Rights Week challenges us all to confront and remove barriers to achieving justice for victims and survivors of crime.

This week, and every week, we stand with victims of crime and their families- honoring their strength, uplifting their voices, and reaffirming our commitment to justice.

This year's theme is “Listen. Act. Advocate. Protect victims, serve communities.” It reminds all of us of the critical role we each play in supporting victims and survivors.

If you or someone you know has been affected by crime, help is available & you are NOT alone. Together, we can build a safer, stronger community by listening, acting, and advocating for those in need.

Wednesday evening, the Delaware County Prosecutor's Office Victim Advocate, Hannah Kline, attended Ball State University's annual Take Back the Night. The event was hosted by Ball State Center for Survivor Support, and Victim Advocate Anna McGee with Ball State. This event is amazing, and helps students find resources in the community, survivor stories, and a place to come together to bring awareness to the issue of sexual violence. Strong community collaboration is key for survivors. đŸ©”

April is nationally recognized as Sexual Assault Awareness Month. This April, we reflect on 25 years of action and progress toward ending sexual assault, abuse, and harassment. The 2026 theme, “25 Years Stronger: Looking Back, Moving Forward,” celebrates the resilience of survivors and the communities that have worked for change. We invite you to learn how to take meaningful steps toward prevention, support those around you, and create spaces where everyone feels safe, valued, and respected. Together, we can carry this movement forward for the next 25 years and beyond.

For more information, visit https://www.nsvrc.org/. If you are a survivor, RAINN is the national sexual assault hotline. You can visit rainn.org or call 800-656-HOPE(4673).

Locally, A Better Way can also assist you. Their website is abetterwaymuncie.org & their number is 765-747-9107.

A great opportunity this Holiday Season! This Friday from 3pm-6pm. 🎄🎁

It’s officially that time of year when A Better Way staff trade in their regular duties for honorary elf status by wrapping gifts, stuffing stockings, and doing everything we can to bring a little extra joy to those we serve. Our annual Christmas Extravaganza is coming up, and it’s a truly special event. Individuals and families in the community get to choose gifts for their loved ones and have them wrapped on-site by us!

But even the best elves can’t work their magic without supplies. That’s where we could really use your help!

We’re currently in need of:
- Gift bags (all sizes!)
- Tissue paper
- Tape
- Christmas stockings

This season can be incredibly hard for many families, and your generosity helps us make sure children wake up to full stockings, fun surprises, and a little extra Christmas magic this year. If you’re able to donate, please drop items off at A Better Way's Donation Center or call us at 765-747-9107 to make other arrangements.

We will be open from 3PM-6PM on December 5th for anyone in the community that needs Christmas assistance!

TRAGIC DEATH OF DELAWARE COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPUTY BLAKE REYNOLDS

Muncie Indiana – Early this morning, I was heartbroken to learn of Corporal Blake Reynolds’ tragic death. The entire Prosecutor’s Office extends our condolences to Blake’s family, friends, and all who have worked with him on the Delaware County Sheriff’s Department. Long ago it was written in the New Testament that “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.” The Gospel of John 15:13 tells us that “No greater love has a man than this, that he should lay down his life for his friends.” Please keep Corporal Reynolds’ family, loved ones, and all first responders in your thoughts and prayers as the Delaware County Community begins to mourn this tremendous loss.

The Indiana State Police is conducting an investigation into the facts and circumstances surrounding this devastating loss. Therefore, at this time there will not be any further comment until the investigation is complete.
