🔥 🔥 🔥 Controlled Burn Reminder 🔥 🔥 🔥
While the weather is still nice, you may want to get out and cleanup around your rural property. Many like to burn off their dead grass, brush, vegetation, CRP grounds, etc.
This is a reminder that if you do have a controlled burn of your property, to notify the Bond County Fire Departments.
This helps to stop area Fire Departments from getting called out to your property by someone seeing the fire and not realizing it's intentional.
Some steps to help ensure no issues arise:
▪️Notify the Greenville Police Dispatch Center at 618-664-2131
🔺️ DO NOT call the Sheriff's Department to report a controlled burn. This is a different Dispatch Center from the one that dispatches the Fire Departments 🔺️
▪️Give your name, property location, how long you will be burning, and a telephone number.
▪️Notify neighbors of your intention to burn.
▪️STAY WITH THE AREA WHILE BURNING. It's only controlled if someone is there, watching the fire.
▪️Be sure everything is extinguished before you leave. Any Fire escaping the property and doing damage is your responsibility.
▪️Again, a working telephone number is a must! We need to be able to get in touch with you if we get called out.
🔴 Unattended Fire Will Be Extinguished 🔴
If you are having a controlled burn and it looks like it's getting away, DIAL 911. Do not wait to make that call. We would much rather it be a small issue than a major event.
Check the weather forecast before, during, and after the burn. Just because winds are calm at the start, doesn't mean they will be in 2 hours. Is there a risk winds will blow embers around overnight?
➡️Remember: Yes, the ground may be soaking wet, but the grass and brush on top is dead and dry. Firefighters may have difficulty gaining access to the fire.
We will post any Fire Weather Advisories or No-Burn notices here on the page. No-Burn notices will also be broadcast on WGEL radio and sent out via the Bond County CodeRed Notification System.
