Yesterday was a tough day for the MPPD as we said goodbye to retired K-9 Arie. The 14-year-old Belgian Malinois served the Town of Mount Pleasant from 2013-2019. He lived out his retirement with his partner Lt. Matthew Parks and his family. Please keep Lt. Parks and his family in your thoughts during this difficult time.

Over the weekend Lowcountry law enforcement came together to light the cauldron with a torch run to start eighth annual Special Olympics Bandana Tournament. We partnered with MUSC Public Safety, College of Charleston PD, CHS County Sheriff's Office, and Mount Pleasant Fire Department. We ran an escorted run down a portion of Mathis Ferry and Whipple Road into the Mount Pleasant Tennis Complex on Whipple Rd.

This Memorial Day, the Mount Pleasant Police Department honors and remembers the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country and our freedom.

Today, we pause to reflect on their courage, service, and selflessness. May we never forget those who gave everything for the nation and community we proudly serve. 🇺🇸

As we kick off the long holiday weekend, make sure you have a plan for increased traffic on our roads, and if you're going to drink, don't drive. We salute those who paid the ultimate price in service to our country. Honor their lives. Remember their families. Never forget their sacrifice. 🇺🇸

This morning, officers with the Mount Pleasant Police Department impounded 12 illegally
operated mopeds, motorcycles, and modified e-bikes from students at Moultrie Middle School.

This enforcement effort is focused on one priority: safety. Many of these vehicles are being operated by underage or unlicensed riders, creating serious risks for the children riding them, other motorists, pedestrians, and the community as a whole.

We understand these vehicles can be fun and convenient, but parents and guardians play an
important role in ensuring that any vehicle their child operates is legal, properly registered, and
appropriate for their age and licensing status. What may appear to be an e-bike is often legally classified as a motorcycle under South Carolina law and requires registration, insurance, and a valid license.

Parents or guardians of students whose vehicles were impounded may pick them up at MPPD Headquarters located at Town Hall.

For questions, you can call us at 843-884-4176 or check out our E-bike Parents Guide. https://www.tompsc.com/DocumentCenter/View/53915/MPPD_Ebike_vs_Moped_SC_Law_Parents_Infographic
