Earlier this week some of our School Resource Officers represented the MPPD at the annual South Carolina Association of School Resource Officers (SCASRO) conference in Myrtle Beach.

The mission of the organization is to promote and facilitate training and communication among SROs, school district personnel, and community organizations.

The SCASRO was developed by a group of 23 SROs in 1996. They saw a need to have a statewide organization for officers to discuss programs that were working and what programs had not worked in our schools, how to handle certain situations, and a clearinghouse for lesson plans.

SCASRO has developed into an organization that is now recognized statewide and nationally.

This weekend we honor the symbol of our nation and the freedoms it represents. Sunday is Flag Day. On Flag Day, we reflect on the values of unity, sacrifice, and service that make our country strong.
From all of us at the Mount Pleasant Police Department, we proudly stand behind the red, white, and blue. 🇺🇸

In this edition of Ready to Respond, our officers spent last week getting re-certified in emergency vehicle operation. The standard is simple, but not easy: complete the course without touching a single cone, within the allotted time. Think you can do it? Want to join our team and prove it? Visit tompsc.com/careers

Yesterday was a tough day for the MPPD as we said goodbye to retired K-9 Arie. The 14-year-old Belgian Malinois served the Town of Mount Pleasant from 2013-2019. He lived out his retirement with his partner Lt. Matthew Parks and his family. Please keep Lt. Parks and his family in your thoughts during this difficult time.

Over the weekend Lowcountry law enforcement came together to light the cauldron with a torch run to start eighth annual Special Olympics Bandana Tournament. We partnered with MUSC Public Safety, College of Charleston PD, CHS County Sheriff's Office, and Mount Pleasant Fire Department. We ran an escorted run down a portion of Mathis Ferry and Whipple Road into the Mount Pleasant Tennis Complex on Whipple Rd.

This Memorial Day, the Mount Pleasant Police Department honors and remembers the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country and our freedom.

Today, we pause to reflect on their courage, service, and selflessness. May we never forget those who gave everything for the nation and community we proudly serve. 🇺🇸

As we kick off the long holiday weekend, make sure you have a plan for increased traffic on our roads, and if you're going to drink, don't drive. We salute those who paid the ultimate price in service to our country. Honor their lives. Remember their families. Never forget their sacrifice. 🇺🇸
