Scam Alert

We have received information of a scam going around. Citizens are receiving phone call from a male claiming to be a deputy with the Sheriff's Office. If you receive a call do NOT give out your information. If you believe that call to be real and want to verify prior to giving out your information please call 217-824-4961. We will not call you to advise that you have an arrest warrant.

The National Weather Service in Lincoln has issued a * Severe Thunderstorm ⛈️ Warning for... Eastern Christian County in central Illinois... Northwestern Shelby County in central Illinois... Southern Macon County in central Illinois... * Until 1030 AM CDT. * At 949 AM CDT, severe thunderstorms were located along a line extending from near Mount Auburn to Owaneco to near Nokomis, moving east at 40 mph. HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Expect damage to roofs, siding, and trees. * Severe thunderstorms will be near... Pana, Blue Mound, and Stonington around 955 AM CDT. Moweaqua and Assumption around 1000 AM CDT. Macon and Tower Hill around 1005 AM CDT. Other locations in the path of these severe thunderstorms include Mount Zion.

Yes we know the sirens were set off twice. Dispatch center didn’t know we were testing the sirens.

Northeastern Christian County in central Illinois...
Northwestern Shelby County in central Illinois...
Southwestern Macon County in central Illinois...

* Until 245 PM CDT.

* At 219 PM CDT, a dust channel was near Macon, or 12 miles southwest
of Decatur, and is nearly stationary.

HAZARD...Near zero visibility with strong wind in excess of 40
mph.

IMPACT...Dangerous life-threatening travel.

This includes Interstate 72 between mile markers 125 and 134.

Locations impacted include...
Decatur, Moweaqua, Harristown, Blue Mound, Macon, Stonington,
Niantic, Boody, and Elwin.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Dust storms lead to dangerous driving conditions with visibility
reduced to near zero. If driving, avoid dust storms if possible. If
caught in one, pull off the road, turn off your lights and keep your
foot off the brake.

We are under a tornado warning. sirens have been activated

Tornado risk today up to an 8/10 in red. This is the area with the greatest confidence for strong tornado potential after 5p. We still can have some tornado potential with the morning/midday round.

The orange area still remains at a 7, so stay weather aware anywhere in the WCIA area. The incoming round will tell us a lot about how the afternoon potential will evolve.
