Just after 7PM on Sunday evening our duty crew was dispatched to a report of smoke coming from the roof of a residence in town. Our duty ambulance and EMS Special Operations vehicle responded immediately and arrived shortly after Mountainside patrol officers. Recognizing the incident as a working structure fire, Lt. Deluca established EMS Branch and requested our backup ambulance, staffed by off-duty members, to respond. In total, eight of our EMTs assisted with firefighter rehab operations throughout more than two hours of fireground operations. We would also like to thank the Scotch Plains Rescue Squad for responding to assist while one of our ambulances transported a patient to a local hospital.
The scene ran flawlessly and is proof that when you train well, everyone knows their role and how to get the job done. Incidents like this require coordination between firefighters, police officers, dispatchers, EMTs, and mutual aid companies, and every piece came together exactly as intended. Thankfully, no serious injuries were reported. Great work by our EMTs, the firefighters of the Mountainside Fire Department, Mountainside Police Department, and all of the mutual aid agencies that assisted!!
