On Friday, January 23, our community law enforcement officers came together to honor the life and service of Kenny Brackett, a retired peace officer who dedicated nearly 30 years to protecting San Miguel County and Mountain Village. In his memory an End of Watch caravan of patrol vehicles with emergency lights activated traveled the path Kenny knew so well: from Mountain Village to the Dolores County Fairgrounds via Highway 145, Highway 141 and Highway 491.Thank you, Kenny Brackett, for your decades of dedicated service and your steadfast commitment to keeping our community safe. You will not be forgotten.

It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of our former colleague and friend, Ken Brackett. Kenny dedicated over 29 years of his life to serving the citizens of San Miguel County and the Town of Mountain Village as a peace officer. He served with the San Miguel County Sheriff's Office from 1982 to 1999, and continued his commitment to our community with the Mountain Village Police Department from 1999 to 2011. Those who knew him will remember his sense of humor, as indicated by this photo we found in our archives.

We sincerely thank Ken Brackett for his many years of dedicated service to our community. Our heartfelt thoughts are with the entire Brackett family during this difficult time.

Services will be held at the Dolores County Fairgrounds on January 23, 2026, at 10 a.m. The family invites all those who would like to attend.

We appreciate your patience during this improvement.
