Below is a letter that Mountain Home City Council member Eva Frame regarding the proposed public drinking ordinance.

Please read it and share it with your friends and neighbors.

This Thursday, June 20, 2019, at 6 pm, the Mountain. Home City Council will be voting on an “Ordinance establishing the Historic District as an Entertainment District.”* Simply put, this would allow public drinking of alcohol on the streets of Mountain Home's Historic District from 4:30 pm to 12 am. It does not state in the Ordinance what days of the week this will cover, so it is safe to assume it will cover Sunday-Saturday, 7 days a week.

The boundaries of the Historic District are Gray Street to Shiras Street and East 9th Street to 4th Street, approximately 11 blocks. To put this in perspective, Bourbon Street in New Orleans, LA, is 13 straight blocks. Scattered throughout the Mountain Home Historic District are approximately 4-5 residences that are either in or right outside the boundary of the District. The Ordinance does not allow public drinking in Hickory Park, The Veteran's Plaza and all Government owned buildings. The government owned buildings are located throughout the proposed Entertainment District.

The Ordinance states that this will “highlight restaurants, entertainment and hospitality options”. No exceptions were given to exclude the Friday Night Block Party which is an established “family friendly entertainment”. Also, provisions were not provided for parades held downtown that go through a part of the proposed Entertainment District.

If you are concerned with the direction of this Ordinance, there are three things you can do:

1. Contact Mayor Hillrey Adams and the members of the Mountain Home City Council at the telephone numbers listed below.

2. Attend the City Council Meeting Thursday, June 20 at 6 pm held at 720 Hickory Street.

3. Keep the City Council members and the vote on the Ordinance establishing the Mountain Home Entertainment Historic District as an Entertainment District in your prayers.

We would like to express our deepest sympathy to the family and friends of Erceil Haughn, who passed away on March 2, 2019 at the Good Samaritan Nursing Facility. Erceil was a long time resident of Mountain Home , with many family members still living in the surrounding areas. She was a member, and strong supporter ,of the Twin Lakes Republican Women. Her faithful attendance at every meeting was an encouragement to all and was greatly missed when her health started to fail. We appreciate her legacy of being a strong, conservative example for us to follow.
