🐝 The Buzz on Campus: Pinkston’s GATE Bee Project!

Pinkston GATE students are learning beyond the classroom! After securing a Whole Foods Bee Project grant, students researched the best bees for our campus and helped establish a working hive of gentle Italian honey bees right here at Pinkston.

With guidance from local beekeeper and mentor Matthew Kasinger, students conduct hive inspections, monitor colony health, identify the queen, check honey stores, and even problem-solve unexpected visitors—like a hungry skunk! 🦨🍯

This hands-on project is building skills in science, teamwork, critical thinking, and environmental stewardship—one honey bee at a time! 🐝💛

The Science of Sourdough!

4th graders in Mrs. Resor's class took science into their own hands during our Science of Sourdough unit!

Students explored the science behind fermentation and used microscopes to observe the tiny organisms that help sourdough starter grow. They made observations, asked questions, tracked changes, and watched their starters come alive, all while learning how science connects to something as familiar as the bread we eat!

And the best part? They got to eat their science! After watching the fermentation process, students enjoyed fresh sourdough bread that they baked together.

To take the learning home, each student left with their own sourdough starter and the recipe so they can continue experimenting, baking, and observing the science of fermentation with their families.

Last week, UCA Admissions Counselor, Re*****on Gonser, stopped by to visit with many of our interested seniors, along with several juniors and sophomores, to share more about the college experience and opportunities available at UCA.

The MHHS College & Career Coaching Office hosts RTIs like this throughout the fall, giving students the chance to explore their options, ask questions, and connect directly with college representatives — all during the school day!

Who needs scratch paper when you can write on the table?

Mrs. Hickman’s math students at the Jr. High are putting their knowledge of exponent rules to work on her new high-top dry erase tables! Students can work through problems, collaborate with classmates, and show their thinking right at their seats.

The new tables were purchased through a grant from the Mountain Home Education Foundation, helping bring another hands-on learning opportunity into the classroom.

We love seeing our students learning , and our MHEF grants at work!

Bringing the book to life!

Students in Ms. Reeves’ class recently read Spaghetti in a Hot Dog Bun, and what better way to wrap up the story than by trying the unusual combination for themselves?!

A little reading, a little taste-testing, and a whole lot of fun made for a memorable day of learning in Ms. Reeves’ classroom! 💙💛
