OPERATION HIGH FIVES FOR GOOD VIBES IS BACK! 🙌

We kicked off the first Operation High Fives of the school year by welcoming students at MHHS, Hacker Middle School, and East Elementary with high fives, smiles, and plenty of words of encouragement!

A HUGE thank you to all of our amazing volunteers who make this event so special! From Col Adrian, 366 MSG/CC, to our military and civilian personnel, and our friends at Idaho Power and St. Luke’s, you all showed up BIG today! 👏

Today was a perfect reminder that when we come together as ONE community, we can make a difference, one high five at a time! ✋✨

This morning marked our first Flagpole Friday of the school year, and on such a heavy and significant day as September 11th, the symbolism of coming together, standing united, and reciting the Pledge of Allegiance was especially heartwarming.

Today was a powerful reminder that honoring our history means remembering those we lost, recognizing the courage and sacrifice of so many, and ensuring that the next generation understands the significance of this day.

A heartfelt thank you to Stephensen Elementary School for your dedication, thoughtful assembly, and commitment to honoring those we have lost while teaching our students about the history behind September 11th. 🇺🇸

We are also grateful for the leadership and support of Col Gunter, 366 FW/ CC Col Adrian, 366 MSG/CC and CMSgt Marques, 366 FW/Command Chief, for joining us this morning and standing alongside our students, staff, and families.

And to all of the military-connected families, military members, and civilians who came together this morning, thank you. Your presence, your support, and your commitment to our community matter.

On a day that reminds us of what can divide us, this morning was a beautiful reminder of what can unite us.

We remember. We honor. We stand together. 🇺🇸

It’s Thursday… you know what that means! RESOURCE ROUNDUP!

This week, we’re talking MIC3 — the Interstate Compact on Educational Opportunity for Military Children.

Military moves can bring a LOT of changes for students and families, but you don’t have to navigate those transitions alone!

MIC3 is here to help! The Compact provides guidelines that support military-connected students as they transition between schools and states. It addresses areas such as:

🎓 Enrollment & Registration — helping make the transition into a new school smoother.

📖 Course & Educational Placement — supporting students when transferring schools and ensuring their academic progress is considered.

📝 Records — helping with the timely transfer of important school records.

🏫 Graduation Requirements — providing flexibility when military moves create challenges with completing graduation requirements.

❤️ Student Support — recognizing that military-connected students may experience unique challenges during moves, deployments, and reintegration.

💡 Did you know? If your family is PCSing, your student is transitioning schools, or you’re returning from a deployment, MIC3 may provide protections or options that can help.

As your School Liaison, I’m here to help you understand your options, connect you with the right resources, and advocate for a smoother educational transition for your military-connected student.

👉 Have a MIC3 question? Drop it in the comments or send me a message! Your question might even become next week’s Resource Roundup! 😉

Military Families: Did You Know About Reintegration-Related School Absences?

Military life comes with unique challenges, especially when a service member returns home from deployment. Under the Military Interstate Children’s Compact (MIC3), eligible military-connected students may be able to receive additional excused absences related to reintegration following a deployment.

These absences can provide military families with some flexibility as they reconnect, readjust to routines, and spend important time together after a service member returns home.

As your School Liaison, I’m here to help military families understand their educational rights and navigate school-related questions during every stage of the deployment cycle.

📌 Military families: If your service member is returning from deployment and you have questions about reintegration-related absences, please reach out to your School Liaison or your child’s school to discuss eligibility and local procedures.

Because sometimes family time is mission critical, too. 💙✈️

Compact Rule SEC. 6.101 Absence as Related to Deployment Activities
(a) A custody order, special power of attorney, or other applicable document relative to the guardianship of a child of a military family and executed under the applicable law of each member state shall be sufficient for the purposes of enrollment and all other actions requiring parental participation and consent. A special power of attorney form, which is acceptable in some jurisdictions, can be obtained through the Judge Advocate General’s Corps (JAG) offices pursuant to Military Family Care Plan regulations.
(1) An LEA shall be prohibited from charging local tuition to a transitioning military
child placed in the care of a non-custodial parent or other person standing in loco
parentis who lives in a jurisdiction other than that of the custodial parent. Tuition may
be charged for optional programs offered by an LEA.
(2) An eligible military child, placed in the care of a non-custodial parent or other
person standing in loco parentis who lives in a jurisdiction other than that of the
custodial parent, may continue to attend the school in which he/she was enrolled
while residing with the custodial parent.
(3) An LEA shall not charge tuition. In addition, transportation to and from school is
the responsibility of the non-custodial parent or other persons standing in loco
parentis.
