This year, Leadership Mountain Brook students coordinated a sapling giveaway for first-graders as part of our Arbor Day observance, connecting the next generation to a legacy of conservation that sets Mountain Brook apart.

It is also a tradition recognized nationally. Mountain Brook has earned its 31st Tree City USA designation and 23rd Growth Award from the Alabama Forestry Commission, reflecting three decades of dedicated urban forestry work by our city arborists, the Board of Landscape Design, and a community that takes pride in its tree canopy.

Every day, 43 dedicated men and women in orange shirts work to keep Mountain Brook running 24 hours a day. They answer more than 4,000 calls a year, water flower pots at 4 a.m., and show up in the worst weather so the rest of us don't have to think twice.

The latest Mayor's Message is a tribute to our Public Works team. Read the full piece below, and if you happen to see a member of our Public Works team, please take a moment to share your appreciation.

A new mural has been completed on Highway 280 near the Overton Road intersection, adding a striking piece of public art to one of our city's most visible corridors.

Commissioned by Embrace Alabama Kids and painted by artist Shawn Fitzwater, the mural celebrates recognizable Mountain Brook landmarks including the Old Mill on Jemison Trail, the Jemison Trail Bridge, and Mountain Brook Village. The artwork was provided at no cost to the city.

Embrace Alabama Kids is a nonprofit dedicated to providing homes, healing, and hope to vulnerable children and families across Alabama. Learn more at embracealkids.org.

📚 Thank you to everyone who turned out yesterday to be a part of the “Book Brigade!”

Exciting changes are ahead for the O’Neal Library! Beginning June 1, library services will operate from a temporary location at Mountain Brook City Hall (56 Church St.) while the library undergoes a major interior renovation.

The project will transform the library with expanded children’s spaces, a larger storytelling room, dedicated teen space, an enhanced Innovation Center, additional study rooms, updated restrooms, new furnishings, and more.

Patrons can continue checking out and picking up materials at the temporary location, though some services will be temporarily unavailable during construction. The renovation is expected to last about a year, with the newly renovated library reopening in Summer 2027.

Visit oneallibrary.org for hours, program updates, and renovation information.
