Friends of Palisades-Kepler State Park Palisades-Kepler State Park is open after severe damage from the 2022 derecho.

The Friends of Palisades-Kepler State Park partners and collaborates with Iowa DNR for the preservation & development of natural & cultural resources & landscapes for the enjoyment, health, education, & recreational opportunities of all park patrons. Please be mindful of safety while visiting our great park as we continue clean-up efforts.

Thank you to Raptology for presenting your birds at the Pal today!

The owl, Reggie, is a 14-year-old great horned owl.
We also got to meet a red-tailed hawk who is newer to being an education bird. This was her third event, so she was a bit nervous but did an incredible job. Our presenters answered the many questions of the guests and handled the birds with such grace and patience.

Thank you to all who made it out today! We hope to see you at events in the future!

May 14, 2026: Day of Caring

11 volunteers from Rockwell-Collins picked up trash along the sandbar and all of the main trails. 30 volunteer hours, 2.5 bags of trash, one tire, deer bones, etc.

One of the most photographed little spots at Palisades-Kepler State Park is known as “the Keyhole.”

This narrow stone stairway frames the Cedar River below, almost like you’re stepping through a hidden doorway into the park.

It’s one of those small details that makes Palisades-Kepler such a memorable Iowa stop.
