September is library card sign-up month!

Apply in person or online anytime!

Your library card gives you access to over 70,000 materials for checkout including books, movies, TV series, magazines, audiobooks, Library of Things items and more. You also have access to our digital library for ebooks, adudiobooks, and magazines anytime and anywhere. And free access to a wide variety of online research and learning resources.

San Diego is a nice city, but years of budget constraints in its library system are taking a toll. As a frequent visitor, I have watched what more than a decade of underinvestment has done to neighborhoods, economic growth, and the city's character.

San Diego’s population reads fewer books than Seattle’s, and San Diego residents also make only $0.82 for every dollar generated in Seattle, despite similar populations and economic profiles (in the greater metro area). Yet this embarrassing fact seems to matter little at library budget meetings where assumptions about value seem to outweigh realities about use.

Bring a puzzle or game from home and swap it for one that's new to you! Puzzles must be in good condition, have all their pieces, and be in their original boxes.

All Mount Vernon School District students and staff get a free library card! Stop by the library to get yours today!

Middle school and High school students can use their student ID as their library card.

Elementary students can get a card at the library.

If your student is new to the district this year their account will be ready in October.

Staff will need a current year school ID or equivalent documentation.

Now that the kids are back in school, you can finally get some reading done. We've extended the Summer Reading Bizgo deadline to September 30th so get your playing card turned in before we draw the winners on Friday, October 2nd!
