This morning, we proudly celebrated an exciting time for our department with the swearing in of two full-time members and the promotion of two dedicated members.

While officially joining the department in new full-time Firefighter/Paramedic roles, both of our newest members, Luke Hawbaker and Nate Wolfe, are already familiar faces, having previously served through our part-time program. We’re excited to see them continue growing within our department and community.

We also recognized two members for their well-earned promotions, reflecting their hard work, leadership, and commitment to serving others. Tommy Calland was to EMS Coordinator/Training Lieutenant and Nate Hines was promoted to Assistant Chief.

Please join us in congratulating all four members and their families on these exciting milestones. We’re proud to have such dedicated individuals representing our department and community. 🚒👏

Our crew had a great time connecting with local second grade students today, who got an up-close look at our emergency vehicles and learned more about what we do every day. Their curiosity was impressive—students asked thoughtful questions about what it takes to become a firefighter and what the job is really like.

Thank you for the warm welcome and to the students for making it such a fun and memorable visit. We loved spending time with our future heroes! 👏❤️

Come out to show your support and see our very own Lt. Burke on the court.

The City of Mount Vernon is deeply saddened to learn that six Air National Guard service members were killed during an air refueling mission in Iraq. Three of the fallen were from Ohio and served with the 121st Air Refueling Wing of the Ohio Air National Guard, which is stationed at Rickenbacker Air National Guard Base in Columbus, Ohio.

Our hearts are with their families, friends, and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time. We keep them in our prayers and honor the service and sacrifice of these brave service members, whose dedication to our country and commitment to protecting others will never be forgotten.

The City of Mount Vernon stands in gratitude for their service and in solidarity with all who mourn this profound loss. 🇺🇸

⚠️ Safety Notice from the Fire Department ⚠️

With the current weather conditions and high winds, please be aware that power lines may come down throughout our area.

Our department will respond to incidents as quickly as possible, but calls will be prioritized as they are received to ensure the most urgent situations are handled first.

🚗 If you are in a vehicle and power lines fall on or around your car:

Stay inside your vehicle. Your car is the safest place for you.

Do NOT exit your vehicle unless you are directed to do so by power company officials or emergency personnel.

⚡ Important reminder:
Always treat all power lines as LIVE. Stay far away and keep others away as well.
