🥦 Reducing Food Waste. Nourishing Our Community. ❤️
The City of Mount Vernon Senior Nutrition Program’s Retail Recovery Program, in partnership with Feeding Westchester and local retailers, is making a meaningful difference in our community by rescuing quality surplus food and putting it to good use.
Through partnerships with Stop & Shop, Target, ACME, COBS Bread, and other participating retailers, we help recover fresh produce, baked goods, meats, dairy products, and other grocery essentials for redistribution to seniors, individuals, and families throughout Mount Vernon.
📊 In September 2026 alone, our team recovered approximately 11,436 pounds of food through 28 pickups!
Operating out of the Doles Center, this program demonstrates the power of community partnerships in reducing food waste, promoting sustainability, and helping ensure our neighbors have access to nutritious food.
💚 A special thank you to the Mount Vernon Recreation Department, Feeding Westchester, our participating retail partners, and the many contributors whose generosity, dedication, and support make this program possible. Your commitment helps us turn surplus food into valuable resources for those who need it most.
Together, we’re reducing waste, nourishing our neighbors, and building a stronger Mount Vernon community—one pickup at a time! 🙌
