Skagit Watershed Council

Skagit Watershed Council . Connecting people, place, and abundant resources to the Skagit. We all share a sense of community around this special place.

'Our Skagit' is a broad-based initiative to empower folks who live, work and play in the Skagit area to protect our natural environment and our communities through knowledge, dialogue and the motivation to act. The Skagit Valley and its coastal regions are places of scenic beauty and natural resource abundance that have provided us with economic vitality and cultural richness. Diverse communities

and interests - fishers, farmers, loggers, builders, recreationists, conservationists and others - have worked hard to steward the bounty and beauty of this place for the benefit of their families and future generations. While we have differences, we have much more in common that should be celebrated. Our challenge, in the face of so much change coming to our Skagit, is finding common paths forward that recognize and protect our quality of life into the future.

Puget Sound Partnership published their Action Agenda this week!

We are excited to announce that the Puget Sound Partnership Leadership Council has adopted the 2026-2030 Action Agenda for - our region’s shared plan to restore and protect Puget Sound.

The Action Agenda identifies the most urgent threats to our waters, lands, and communities, and outlines the coordinated strategies we and our partners will implement to advance measurable recovery.

This achievement was made possible due to the hard work and collaboration of our partners, including hundreds of Tribal governments, agency leaders, scientists, community advocates, environmental organizations, and natural resource businesses.

Read more about the Action Agenda adoption in our press release: https://content.govdelivery.com/accounts/WAPSP/bulletins/41a4e96

And explore the Action Agenda online at our Puget Sound Info site: https://actionagenda.pugetsoundinfo.wa.gov/2026-2030

The Action Agenda has been sent to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for final review and approval.

It's time for another round of Where in the Watershed! Tucked away amongst beautiful old-growth trees, where can you find this picnic shelter? Our team was glad to find it on a particularly rainy day of site visits earlier this month.

Rain AND shine 🌧️☀️ - our team traveled all across the watershed last week with the Technical Review Committee, Lead Entity Citizens Committee, SRFB reviewers, and project sponsors to see this grant round's proposed project sites in person. We saw an incredible variety of projects spanning from upriver to the estuary!

Up next in this grant round, the TRC and LECC will complete their initial reviews. Excited to share more as the process continues!

The USDA released a Washington Water Supply Outlook Report earlier this month - the report shows that although we have received near-normal levels of year-to-date precipitation, the snow drought means all basins in Washington are expected to see well below normal, below normal, or slightly below normal runoff this year.

Heads up: We'll be in the field all day today and Wednesday for site visits! Every year, the Technical Review Committee, Lead Entity Citizens Committee, SRFB reviewers, and project sponsors visit each of the proposed sites for this grant round. These visits help ensure project rankings are thoughtful and well-informed.

Can you spot the tiny fish 👀? Young salmon, or fry, have been emerging from their redds in the gravel since late winter. Most are now spending their time rearing in the watershed and the delta to get bigger before going out to sea. We saw these salmon (and other fish) last week near Mill Creek!
