The Skagit River's summer flows are dropping again, and that means it's time to ask for your help. Anacortes and Skagit PUD customers are being asked to voluntarily cut water use by 10% to help protect fish habitat during these low-flow months.

The good news: small changes add up. Shorter showers, letting your lawn go dormant, turning off the tap while you brush your teeth. All of it helps keep more water in the river when fish need it most.

It starts long before it reaches your faucet. Every glass of water begins somewhere.

For much of the year, your drinking water comes from the Skagit River. During the wetter months, we also draw water from four streams in the Cultus Mountain watershed.

From there, it’s stored, treated, tested, and delivered to approximately 116,000 people across Skagit County.

It’s a journey most people never see. But it’s one we make every day.

When Cort Wilson joined Skagit PUD in 2014, field crews didn't trust the digital mapping system. They used paper instead.

Cort fixed that by getting out from behind his desk — working alongside crews, learning their workflows, and listening. Over time, crews went from using the system to helping build it.

Twelve years later, that work pays off every time we decide which pipes to replace and when.

🏆 Our Top Ops team is heading to the national championship in Washington, D.C.!

Water Treatment Plant Operators Rob Sager and Riley Smith, along with Meter Technician Matt Walker, won the regional competition in Tacoma in May and will compete June 21-24 against the best water operators from across the U.S. and Canada.

Top Ops is like Jeopardy for the water industry — a fast-paced quiz competition where teams answer complex technical questions about water treatment, safety, and operations in just 25 seconds.

Congratulations to Rob, Riley, and Matt for representing Skagit PUD and the Pacific Northwest at the AWWA Annual Conference!
