The week of April 12 through April 18 has been designated National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week.

This week, we recognize the hard work, professionalism, and dedication of our Communications Specialists. Their service deserves recognition every day of the year.

At the Mount Vernon Police Department, our dispatchers are known as Communications Specialists. They are often the first point of contact in a crisis. They answer the initial call for help and set in motion the response that sends our officers to roughly 40,000 calls for service each year. They also handle tens of thousands of additional calls that require guidance, information, or assistance without a police, fire, or EMS response.

Their role goes far beyond answering the phone. They direct the proper response, monitor officer safety, and help keep order during fast-moving incidents. They are a critical part of every operation and a steady presence behind the scenes.

To our dedicated Communications Specialists, thank you for all you do for this Department and this community.

❄️❄️❄️Well, it’s here. ❄️❄️❄️

Reposting what we posted yesterday. We have added a list of available off street parking for those that can’t park on snow emergency streets. We are notifying, summonsing and towing cars from the snow routes. 🚫🚗

A travel ban has been declared for both the county and city. Only essential workers should be driving after 9PM. If you don’t know if you are an essential worker then you aren’t one and should just stay home.

If your power goes out, we can’t turn it back on. Call 800-75-CONED or go to www.coned.com to report it.

Alternate side parking is suspended. The Mount Vernon School District is closed, Bee-Line is suspended and City Hall is closed tomorrow. In other words, STAY HOME AND OFF THE ROAD (especially the snow emergency routes).

Stay home, stay safe.

And just when we thought we were getting rid of the snow, here comes another inch or six or sixteen (seriously, all this AI and we still can’t figure out how much snow to expect?) ❄️❄️❄️

It’s going to snow. Potentially a lot. DO NOT PARK ON THE SNOW ROUTES, you can be summonsed and towed. The list of snow routes is in the graphics. 🚓🚒🚑🪝🚧

We have also placed the CODE BLUE locations and numbers in the graphics, in case they are needed. 🥶

High winds are expected. If the power goes out, don’t call us as we can’t turn it back on. 👀. Call Con Ed instead. ⚡️ or use their website for more information (www.coned.com)

Lastly, City Hall will be closed on Monday, February 23rd and the City Council Work Session for the 23rd will be held virtually. 💻
