This morning while conducting an investigation, deputies learned that an extremely upset individual was heading to the East Knox High School. Our school resource officers and detectives were already on the scene and quickly diffused the situation outside. A preventative lockdown was initiated prior to the person’s arrival, even though there had been no threats directed toward any students or staff members, and no weapons were involved. Thank you to the staff members for their prompt assistance.

Always wonderful to work with The Philander Chase Conservancy as they work to preserve the beauty of Knox County!

We are delighted to announce that Kenyon alumnus Bruce Kiracofe '72 recently granted the Philander Chase Conservancy a conservation easement on his beautiful 25.6-acre property located in Howard Township along the banks of the Kokosing River. By granting this easement, Bruce has protected 1,270 feet of frontage on the Kokosing and has ensured that his land will remain protected riverside and streamside woodlands forever. It was our honor to work with Bruce to help protect his property in perpetuity.

Knox County has a new look! Today we officially adopted a brand new county seal design, replacing the Green Courthouse variant of the seal that has represented the Knox County Commissioners Office and other departments for decades.

Bearing the outline of our county encircled by 22 stars standing for the 22 townships, the design pays homage to Knox County’s original Blue Star seal, examples of which can still be seen on the County Flag outside of the Knox County Service Center in Mount Vernon. The minimalist illustration in the center of the county depicts rolling hills under a sunrise, which is both a nod to The Great Seal of the State of Ohio and an embrace of our county’s rural heritage.

In the coming weeks and months, keep an eye out for the new seal as it begins to appear on county vehicles, buildings, websites, and more!

July's numbers are in!
It was a hot month, but we saw recordings cool off a bit.
Still a stable month for Knox County, given the Federal Reserve increased rates yet again.

We'd like to remind veterans and families of veterans that we provide recording services for military discharge documents completely free of charge.
Please contact our office for more info about how we can work with you on this benefit!

HAVE YOU RECEIVED THIS?
Scam mailers sent masquerading as tax documents/government benefits are popular among fraudsters. They are usually the method of choice when targeting seniors.

How can you tell the difference between something real and something phony?

Look for these red flags:
🚩Sense of urgency.
Phrases like “Respond by x,” “return this within x days,” “Second Notice,” and “Time Sensitive” create a stressful sense of urgency where you feel like you have to act quickly and without time to study and research what these documents are.
🚩Ambiguous “Records Division”
Who? Who is sending this? What division? What records? Certainly sounds serious, right? That’s what they want you to think. Serious matters are handled seriously. If it was real, they'd let you know who they were.
🚩 non-government url
Look at the website at the bottom of the document. To “opt-out” of these supposed government mailers it encourages you to go to a non-government operated website. That’s not how that works. We also encourage you NOT to go to this website to opt-out. You won’t be opting out of anything, you’ll just be giving out more info and possibly signing up for more! To opt-out, throw this piece of mail in the garbage.
🚩 Supposedly for Ohio citizens but comes from GA.
This is presented as a federal tax document (consider the font and design), it mentions an incredibly generous, seemingly exclusive benefit for Ohio citizens, but the document comes from the state of Georgia. Seems a bit off, right? If it feels wrong, it probably is. Go with your gut.
👍 RULE OF THUMB: If you didn’t initiate it, chances are, you shouldn’t engage with it.

If a document says anything about “records” or “deeds” and you think it’s from our office, it probably isn’t unless you’ve been recording something in our office and you’re expecting something from us. Even then, any correspondence from our office will include our logo and the signature of the County Recorder.

If you’re ever unsure about a document you receive feel free to contact us! We’re here to serve you!

The staff in the Recorder’s office has been asking for some “Knox County pictures” to adorn the bare walls of the office.
Recorder Tanner Salyers obliged with a portrait of Revolutionary War hero Henry Knox, for whom Knox County is named!
The staff was…unenthusiastic.
Gotta be more specific, ladies.
