🚨 Incident Report
At approximately 11:56 AM today, Company 7/700 was alerted to S. Greene Street for an inside investigation.
Chief 7 responded directly to the scene and upon arrival, reported normal exterior conditions. The homeowner approached the Chief and advised that she had been spraying cleaner into an electric baseboard heater when the unit began to smoke.
Rescue 7 arrived on scene with a crew of four, along with Firefighter Cameron Shaw (Three Springs). Firefighter Shaw entered the residence to further investigate and determined there was no active fire.
The Rescue 7 crew conducted a thorough investigation using a thermal imaging camera, dry chemical fire extinguisher, and pressurized water cam. The affected area and surrounding spaces were checked with no fire or additional hazards found.
Power to the affected baseboard heating unit was secured at the breaker panel, and the breaker was left in the off/tripped position. The homeowner was advised not to reset the breaker and to contact a certified electrician to inspect the unit before restoring power.
Once the investigation was completed and the scene was deemed safe, all units returned available.
We would like to remind everyone to never spray cleaning products directly into or around electrical heating equipment. If you notice smoke, unusual odors, sparking, or other signs of an electrical issue, shut off power if it can be done safely and contact a qualified professional.
