Milling and resurfacing will be on-going on the ramps at the 113 interchange of I64 and US 60 this week during both days and nights depending on weather. Each ramp will be closed in turn while crews conduct operations.

The roadway is now open.

The semi driver involved in the incident received a citation for disregarding a traffic control device.

🚨 Traffic Alert – I-64 Eastbound Closure 🚨

I-64 Eastbound is currently closed due to a semi blocking the roadway in the construction zone.

Motorists are asked to use the following detour:
➡️ Take Exit 101
➡️ Follow US 60
➡️ Re-enter I-64 Eastbound at Exit 110

Please expect delays, and use caution while traveling through the area. We appreciate your patience as crews work to clear the roadway and reopen the interstate.

You may start noticing these speed monitoring signs appearing around Montgomery County over the coming weeks.

These signs are an important tool that helps the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office identify when and where speeding is most common. They collect traffic data, including vehicle speeds and the times of day speeding occurs. This information allows us to better target traffic enforcement efforts where they are needed most.

Each sign will remain in an area with a high number of speed-related crashes or citizen complaints for approximately 30 days before being moved to the next location.

Our goal isn't to write more tickets—it's to reduce crashes, improve safety, and encourage motorists to slow down before someone gets hurt.

As always:
✅ Obey the posted speed limit.
✅ Stay focused and avoid distractions.
✅ Buckle up every trip, every time. Wearing your seat belt is one of the simplest and most effective ways to protect yourself and your passengers in the event of a crash.

Together, we can make Montgomery County's roads safer for everyone.

You’ll start to notice these speed signs being moved around our county now. Judge Chris Haddix and the Fiscal Court purchased these for us to use to assist us in targeting our traffic enforcement efforts and the Montgomery Co. Road Department installed them.

These signs collect data on speeds and times which we can download to better target times when speeding is more prevalent. These are one more tool we can utilize to make our roadways safer for all.

TRAFFIC STOP LEADS TO DRUG ARREST

On July 23, 2026, at approximately 12:27 a.m., the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, along with members of the Gateway Area Drug Task Force, conducted a traffic stop on I-64 eastbound near the 110-mile marker in Mount Sterling.

During the traffic stop, approximately 348 grams of suspected methamphetamine were located. James Crockett, 57, of Sandy Hook, was taken into custody and charged with:

• TICS, 1ST DEGREE, 2ND OR > (≥ 2 GMS METHAMPHETAMINE)

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by K9 Butan with Mount Sterling Police Department, and the Gateway Area Drug Task Force.

Crockett was lodged in the Montgomery County Regional Jail.

🚔 Indiana Fugitive Arrested During Traffic Stop 🚔

On July 20, 2026, at approximately 1:50 a.m., Deputies with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop on Wi******er Road near Prewitt-Grassy for minor traffic violations.

The operator, Jarome Booker, 40, of Indiana, was taken into custody on two full-extradition warrants out of Indiana.

During the investigation, the passenger, Larae Williamson, 35, of Indiana, was taken into custody on a warrant out of Madison County. Subsequently, approximately a quarter ounce of methamphetamine was located.

Williamson was charged with Trafficking in a Controlled Substance (Methamphetamine), Tampering with Physical Evidence, Theft of Identity, and Drug Paraphernalia.

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Mount Sterling Police Department and their K9 Butan.

Both were lodged in the Montgomery County Regional Jail.

🚨 TRAFFIC STOP LEADS TO DRUG ARREST 🚨

On July 18, 2026, at approximately 12:23 a.m., Deputies with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop in Jeffersonville and arrested Brandon Means, 45, of Clay City, Kentucky, on four outstanding warrants.

During the investigation, Deputies located more than an ounce of methamphetamine, and paraphernalia.

Means was charged with:

• Trafficking in a Controlled Substance, 1st Degree, 1st Offense – Greater Than or Equal to 2 Grams of Methamphetamine

• Drug Paraphernalia – Buy/Possess

Means was lodged in the Montgomery County Regional Jail.
