Have you ever noticed a solitary, dove-sized bird sitting on a powerline, but seen a flash of blue or red and thought, "wait, what was that?!"
Well, there is a chance that you just saw an American Kestrel! This species is the smallest falcon in North America. As such, they like to hunt tiny prey in open fields - hence the powerline vantage point!
🐦 If you are interested in bird watching, try downloading the Merlin app, where they help identify birds via their bird calls. This Valentine's weekend, you can join the Great Backyard Bird Count through Merlin.
