The Dunsmuir Grade Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Facility has spent the last several decades providing quality service through education and enforcement. Additionally, quality service is provided by conducting commercial vehicle inspections and driver screenings for impairment and fatigue. Shasta Inspection Facility opened its doors in 1971. Shasta CHP Area Office, it was primarily a "stop-and-w
eigh" station. Space was shared with the California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA), jointly conducting agricultural inspections until CDFA moved to their current location in Hornbrook, CA. In 1995, this facility became independent from the Mt. Shasta CHP Area Office and was renamed the "Dunsmuir Grade Inspection Facility" (DGIF). A "weigh-in-motion" scale and the "PrePass" system were soon integrated into daily operations. The original scalehouse (the "Chicken Coop") was replaced with a new scalehouse office building in 2003. This building includes modern offices, locker rooms and kitchen amenities for the officers and inspectors. In 2011, the facility was renamed the Dunsmuir Grade Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Facility (DGCVEF) to emphasize the Department's specialized focus on the commercial industry. In 2018, DGCVEF went through another phase of renovation and expansion. A new inspection office was built by CALTRANS conveniently next to the inspection bays.
