It’s going to be a beautiful day today, please dont ruin it by burning your trash or brush today with high winds and low humidity.
JUST SAY NO!

If you must burn please call Logan dispatch at 217-732-4159 to report it. Create fire breaks, have water on hand and a leaf blower to blow embers back into the black. Burn into the wind but preferably wait until it’s not blowing 25mph.
Just a thought, DON’T BURN ANYTHING!

Rule of thumb- don’t burn if the wind is blowing faster than you can run, and be honest when was the last time you actually ran anywhere ?😂
DON’T DO IT!

Stay with the fire until it’s completed. If the fire starts to get out of control, call 911 immediately instead and we will be there as fast as we can to help.
Or better yet DON’T BURN ANYTHING!

There is no burn ban in effect, we know it’s tempting but
PLEASE JUST DON’T!

If you cant help yourself- please be smart, call it in beforehand, stay with the fire, have water, a phone and a leaf blower handy.
Hear me out- DON’T BURN YOUR BRUSH OR TRASH WHEN THE WIND IS BLOWING!

Stay Safe.

We’re not sure if you’ve heard but there’s a little bad weather heading our way.

Slippery roads and reduced visibility can lead to accidents, so it's best to avoid unnecessary trips if possible. If you must go out, make sure your vehicle is ready and that you have an emergency kit on hand.

Along with the snow, we need to pay attention to the dangerous windchills. Exposure to these frigid temperatures can lead to frostbite and hypothermia in a very short time. Dress in layers, cover exposed skin, and limit your time outside to stay safe.

If you're using space heaters to stay warm, please be careful. Always keep them at least three feet away from anything flammable, and never leave them unattended while they are on. Make sure your home is well-ventilated to avoid any build-up of carbon monoxide.

In case of rolling blackouts, having a generator can be helpful, but it’s crucial to use it safely. Always operate your generator outdoors in a well-ventilated area to prevent carbon monoxide buildup inside your home. Keep it away from doors, windows, and vents to ensure no fumes enter your living space.

Stay warm and stay safe out there!

SPACE HEATER WARNING-
With near record low temperatures approaching we know folks will be using space heaters as a supplement or for emergency use.
Space heaters are a significant fire hazard, responsible for thousands of home fires annually, but they can be used safely by keeping them at least 3 feet away from anything flammable, plugging them directly into wall outlets (no extension cords!), placing them on stable, flat surfaces, and always turning them off when leaving the room or sleeping. Improper use, like placing them near beds, furniture, or using extension cords, drastically increases fire risk.
So PLEASE be safe, and aware of the risks when you plug in your space heaters!

Press Release - Anhydrous Ammonia Incident

10/12/2025

The burn ban for the Mt. Pulaski Rural Fire Protection District has been allowed to expire. At this time, extremely dry conditions persist and open burning in rural areas is discouraged. If burning is necessary please keep a water source nearby and be cognizant of wind conditions.

Fire Chief John Aylesworth

10/05/2025

Due to ongoing drought conditions, relative humidity values dropping into the 25-35% range, and southerly winds gusting over 20mph...an enhanced fire danger will develop on Sunday. Therefore in accordance with 70 ILCS 705/8.20 (c), a ban on open burning within the boundaries of the Mt. Pulaski Rural Fire Protection District is in effect as of Saturday, October 4, 2025 until Sunday, October 12, 2025.

You may contact the Mt. Pulaski fire station at 217-792-5222 with any questions.
