HIV medicine can lower the amount of virus in your blood to a level that tests cannot detect. This is called being undetectable. Being undetectable prevents sexual transmission of HIV.

Undetectable = Untransmittable

Start HIV treatment as soon as possible to protect your health and prevent transmission. Most people who take their medicine as prescribed reach an undetectable level within six months.

Regular testing is the only way to know if you are undetectable. Staying undetectable requires taking your medicine as directed and seeing your provider on a routine schedule.

You and your partner may still choose other prevention tools like condoms or PrEP if you have trouble staying undetectable, miss doses, want protection from other STIs such as syphilis or gonorrhea, or want extra reassurance.

CMDHD offers HIV testing and treatment. Call Community Health at 989-314-7570 to schedule HIV/STI testing. If you have been diagnosed as HIV positive, call our HIV treatment clinic at 989-726-4405 ext. 1464 to make an appointment to discuss treatment options.

Let's talk about mosquito bites!

Some mosquitoes can spread illnesses to people and animals, so it's important to take precautions to prevent mosquito bites.

One way is to remove potential mosquito breeding sources. Mosquitoes love standing water.

Dump out any water that’s sitting in buckets, toys, flowerpots, or birdbaths.

Check your yard once a week for standing water. Just ten minutes can help keep mosquitoes away -- and protect you and your family from bites.

High E. coli isn’t just gross. It can make you sick.

When bacteria levels are too high in beach water, swimmers are at risk. Health issues from E. coli exposure include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, headache, fever, and skin rashes. Contaminated water can also lead to infections in the eyes, ears, nose, and throat.

In highly polluted water, you may also be exposed to serious germs like Cryptosporidium, Giardia, Norovirus, and Shigella. CMDHD tests public beaches every week and posts an advisory if the water isn’t safe.

If there’s a warning sign, don’t swim.

Check water conditions on the BeachGuard site before you head out: https://mienviro.michigan.gov/explorer/beach/map/results.
