We are grateful to receive a $27,087 grant from the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation to support our emergency response efforts. This funding will be used to purchase rope rescue equipment, helping ensure our department is better equipped to serve the Norvelt community. Rescue 37 was activated this morning to assist Hunker VFD to provide air with our cascade system on a working structure fire. The rescue went enroute with a crew of 7. Once on scene, command requested our 5 maskmen to assist with extinguishment and overhaul.

We were recently awarded a grant from the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation that allowed us to purchase a full compliment of rope rescue equipment for Rescue 37. Some of the equipment includes 4-200 ft rope bags, 2-300 ft rope bags, numerous anchoring devices, multiple harnesses, ascenders, descenders, pulleys, a multi-position tripod, and various patient removal equipment. Members have additional rope training planned over the next few weeks. Once the training is complete both Rescue and Engine Rescue 37 will be able to provide low and high angle rope rescue for our community and the surrounding ones.

Last evening Rescue 37 and Mt. Pleasant VFD Engine 38-4 provided rescue and fire protection for the Westmoreland Fair Demolition Derby. Rescue 37 had a crew of 3 rescue technicians and 3 rescue technician/EMTs.

Just after 4 am Rescue 37 was activated as part of the first alarm to assist Chestnut Ridge VFC with a working commercial garage fire. Rescue 37 responded with a crew of 8 and split to perform interior attack, ventilation, and overhaul. The rescue’s cascade system also provided air refill services to the units onsite. Departments from Westmoreland, Fayette, and Somerset counties were all on scene.
