The MPPD has created a quick E-Bike Parent Guide to help families tell the difference between true e-bikes and electric mopeds or motorcycles, which follow very different laws.

Many parents are surprised to learn their child’s “e-bike” may actually be a moped that needs registration and a license for riders. The guide shows what to check (motor power, top speed, and working pedals) and explains local rules for where kids can ride.
